Merging Accounts

Something that comes up from time to time is the need to eliminate duplicate General Ledger accounts.  QuickBooks makes this process easy:

NOTE:  You can only merge accounts of the same type.  Also, please know that this process is irreversible.

1.  From the Lists menu, select Chart of Accounts.
2.  Right-click on the account you do not want to use and select Edit Account.
3.  Change the account name or account number so that it matches the account you're merging it with.
4.  Click OK and click Yes to confirm that you want to merge the two accounts.

First International
QuickBooks Conference

MARIO NOWOGRODZKI, CPA/CITP

Founder and Principal

A few months ago, I had the pleasure to visit the Netherlands Antilles as the featured presenter at the first International QuickBooks Conference.  The two-day event in September was hosted and sponsored by our colleague Intuit Solution Provider firm Class N.V. in Curaçao.  I extend my genuine gratitude to Aubrey Pasial, owner of Class N.V., for inviting me to headline the conference.

Topics I covered included: Data File Management & Troubleshooting, Inventory Management, Networking QuickBooks, Reporting, QuickBooks POS & Other Add-Ons, and a Stump the Expert Panel.  Accounting professionals and business owners and managers came from several countries to attend the conference, including Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba, Surinam, Costa Rica, and United States.

I spent the rest of the week on consulting engagements with Class N.V. clients.  Working with local companies afforded the opportunity to experience the local culture -- the people, the food, the life.  That was by far the highlight of my week-long Curaçao adventure.  From eating fresh-caught yellow-tail in a rustic local hangout right on the beach (in between client visits!) to partaking of iguana soup, the local flavor will never be forgotten.  And the people of Curaçao impressed me the most, with their affinity for laughter and the lighter side of life and their impressive linguistic skills -- everyone is fluent in four languages: Papiamentu (a colorful local dialect), Dutch (from the colonial roots), Spanish (from the proximity to Latin America), and English (a way to communicate internationally).  Definitely something to admire.

I was invited to return to Curaçao to work on more QuickBooks consulting projects -- so I write this month's issue of the Mendelson Solutions Digest from Willemstad, Curaçao!

Ayó,

...MARIO

Thanksgiving Table

Happy Thanksgiving!

You may not be having duck, fish, or deer for Thanksgiving dinner, as the Pilgrims did, but gathering with family and friends is probably in your plans.

What we think of as the first Thanksgiving in 1621 was made possible in part by the Pilgrims' friends and neighbors.  Massasoit, leader of the confederacy of Wampanoag tribes, and about 90 of his men, brought deer and other meats to the Pilgrim's harvest celebration.  The Pilgrims certainly needed the friends. After a year in the New World, their numbers had declined by half and they had faced deprivation and hardship.  The Wampanoag's generosity was surely welcome.

Just like in those times, we at Mendelson Consulting want to express our gratitude to all that in some way or another have crossed paths with us.  Our warmest wishes in this Thanksgiving.  To our friends, have a thankful, joyous, and safe holiday!
