Notes from the Field...
MARIO NOWOGRODZKI, CPA/CITP
Founder and Principal
Greetings from Chicago! This is normally the space occupied by the
regular "From the desk of..." feature, but this month I take advantage of my
being in the Windy City to report from the field -- live, from the 2009 Intuit
Solution Provider Summit, the annual conference of QuickBooks' mid-market
resellers. Due to our firm's
overwhelming success in customer acquisition, customer retention, and customer
service, I was invited to participate as a panelist in a discussion on how to
increase and generate new business in these economic times. The session was a resounding success, drawing
the largest attendance of all the conference seminars and getting rave reviews
about the valuable mindshare.
A day prior to the actual conference, as part of the Intuit
Solution Provider Advisory Council, I participated in a day-long meeting to
help define and shape the present and future of this reseller program. As the only member since the formation of the
council three years ago, I led several discussions including market definition,
product segmentation, integrated software solutions, engagement of the
ProAdvisor community, among several other topics.
you and great big Chicago wave to everyone!
What's New in QuickBooks 2010
One week prior to the conference, Intuit announced the release
of the newest version of QuickBooks software suite: QuickBooks Pro/Premier 2010,

large amounts of list data is now as simple as copy & paste from
Excel thanks to Add/Edit
Multiple List Entries function
see how you are doing using the improved Company Snapshot -
customizable for your needs
- Spend less
time hunting for the right report with an improved Report Center
one-click access to your everyday tasks using the Favorites Menu
between the previous Online Banking experience from QuickBooks 2008
(register view) or the re-designed Online Banking
- More Customer, Vendor, and Item custom fields, now
available in different data formats (QB Enterprise only)
you have any questions on the newest QuickBooks version, I welcome a
consultation to explore how QuickBooks 2010 / Enterprise 10.0 is right for you. In addition, we will be hosting a seminar on
Nov 17 2009 on "What's New in 2010 from QuickBooks", to be held at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Airport; click here to reserve a spot!
Does Your Business Plan Need a Tune-Up?|
do you even have one? A comprehensive business plan is a must when you're
applying for a loan or venture capital, or if you're going to take on business
But it's a good idea to have one even if you're humming along on your own
funds. It's much easier to gauge your progress and make strategic decisions if
you've laid out a clear road map. If you didn't create a business plan before
you started your business, it's not too late.
And if you have one, maybe it's time to dust it off and see if it needs a
tune-up. According to the Small Business Administration, a business plan should
always be a work-in-progress, subject to regular tweaking.
business plan should consist of several related elements. Here are the most

Description and Organization. What does your business do? Who does what?
and Sales Strategies. How are you marketing and selling your products and

be useful (and to increase your chances of obtaining funding, if that's your
goal), be brutally honest and specific. Not good with grammar and spelling? Ask
someone who is to edit it.
Business plans are lengthy documents, but don't put your potential readers to
sleep. Be concise.
Go It Alone
the framework your business plan should follow may not be enough: You should
lean on the experts.
The Small Business Administration has a good site that provides resources for
starting and maintaining a business. One of the topics covered is business plan
creation. You may also want to consult with your accounting professional and/or
your attorney as you're designing or redesigning your business plan.
are, by nature, attainable and measurable. Your business plan should not only serve
as an attractive prospect for funding, but a guide for you as you continue to
hone the framework of your business. Visit it often, and solicit input from
your key employees. Keep it tuned up, so it's ready at a moment's notice should
a potential investor or banker want to see it.
