You Could WIN A Chip Foose Designed John Deere Tractor

Remember last month, we mentioned a project we could
only tease you about?

Well those tires that Darold is standing by were one clue. Darold and Lynn were over at Foose Design in January checking out Ken Reister's 'Lightning Rod' as well as Jerry and Maureen Magnuson's 1932 Ford 'Magnatude' that was in the shop being finialized by Mr. Foose and the team.

As we were enjoying the facility and the works in progress we spotted this really TALL project that looked like
well....a tractor!

Come to find out the folks at John Deere Tractor in Moline, Illinois were having Chip Foose design a John Deere Tractor that John Deere will be giving away in June.

Hetfield's "Slow Burn" wins 2010 West Coast Custom of the Year at Goodguys

James Hetfield's elegant Slow Burn 1936 Auburn boat
tail speedster was crowned

Goodguys 2010 West Coast Custom of the Year

at the 28th All American Get-Together in Pleasanton. It was a landmark victory for Metallica's front man who has a passion for custom automobiles. His 1937 Ford was a top five finalist at last year's event.

Designed by Hetfield and Rick Dore with paint and body artistry by Darryl Hollenbeck of Vintage Color Studio, "Slow Burn" edged out of top class field of customs including Scott Bonowski's '50 Merc from Signal Hill, Richard Zocchi's '68 Dodge Polara from Walnut Creek, Lionel Duran's '60 Buick from Salinas and
Dore's other entry - a candy blue 1950 Cadillac.

The car will be featured in full color in the June Goodguys Gazette. (Courtesy Goodguys)

This 1936 Auburn also won the King of Kustoms Award at the Sacramento Autorama, the Custom D'Elegance Award for Outstanding Paint and Outstanding Interior and also at Sacramento, the Manuel Arteche Memorial Award.

Inaugural Winfield Award at the 2010 DuPont
Syracuse Nationals

Bob O'Connor (left) Director of the Right Coast Association and legendary customizer Gene Winfield unveiled a rendering of the "Winfield Award" while in the Syracuse Nationals booth at the 2009 SEMA Show.

One car owner at the 2010 Syracuse Nationals will be the recipient of the 1st Annual Winfield Award. The prestigious award for automotive excellence will be presented by master car customizer and builder Gene Winfield.

The winner will receive a beautiful one of a kind award, a personalized commemorative jacket, and $5,000.

Gene is a master of his craft, and world famous for his custom cars and hot rods. A recipient of the 2001 NHRA Lifetime Achievement Award, he has over 60 years experience in custom hot rod fabrication, land speed, and oval track racing.

Winfield is one of the key players who started the customizing craze that first swept through California and then throughout the nation in the '50s and '60s.
Gene's cars have appeared in more than 25 motion pictures.

From the entries, Gene will pick six vehicles to be known as the "Select Six." These vehicles will be prominently displayed inside one of the main buildings at the Syracuse Nationals,
July 16-18, 2010.

Each of the six finalists will receive a plaque, jacket and $500 upon arrival at the show.

Drive Fast, Take Chances:
Birth of the Hot Rod

Drive Fast, Take Chances: Birth of the Hot Rod
April 10 - July 5, 2010

This exhibit explores the emergence of American hot rod culture during and after WWII.  From dry lake beds of California to drag strips and back roads, burger drive-ins and street cruises, this era created a culture that has been celebrated in movies, songs and popular culture across the country and around the world for a half-century.

Cars on exhibit will include, a legendary "belly tank," one of the first examples of a new style of speedster built from army surplus that used aircraft fuel tanks for bodies to take advantage of their minimal wind resistance for maximum speed; "highboys;" and '32 Ford "Deuce Coupes."

For enthusiasts interested in an up-close and detailed "how to" look at hot rod construction, the exhibit will also include a partially disassembled '34 Ford to show off the modifications that are more than skin deep. For more information visit www.CalAutoMuseum.org.

CHEW TOOLS!

OK......if The French Connection is out of the question.....
Rocky has something for your best friend!

Chew Tools?  Yep....CHEW TOOLS for your dog or your
aggressive cats!

These pre-tempered 5 inch long nyla-wrenches come 2 wrenches to a bag and are available in beef or chicken flavor.  And if for some reason your pet leaves them laying around, you can put them in your tool box for those anodized fittings!
(just kidding.....).  We had these at our booth at the Sacramento Autorama and they were HOT. The only issue we had was the folks with the BIG DOGS.....they wanted some, but about 12" to 18" long!

Rocky said the inspiration for the drawing on the package was that he would find a wrench or two laying in the backyard. After some investigating, he discovered his little Tibetan Terrier was picking up assorted wrenches from the garage and taking them out to the backyard.

CLICK on the above photo to check them out.

'MAGNATUDE' Featured In Drive Magazine

Earlier we mentioned a few of the 'other' cars that were at the Foose shop when we stopped by. Jerry and Maureen Magnuson's 'MAGNATUDE' is featured on the cover of the May Issue of DRIVE! Magazine along with a 5 page article and photos.

Magnatude also took home Outstanding Interior, Outstanding Detail and Outstanding Undercarriage at the
Grand National Roadster Show.

Article Highlights Courtesy Matt Emery, DRIVE!

It's been said that a person is judged by the company he keeps. For Jerry Magnuson, owner of Magna Charger superchargers, the company he keeps is made up of some of the top names in this sport. So when he wanted to build a car, he could simply pick up his phone and ask a few friends for their input; you know, guys like Jerry Kugel, Chip Foose and Marcel DeLey.

Magnuson is a longtime hot rodder and racer, and loved the Muroc roadster that Kugel Koncepts produced. The Muroc 2 is a full-fendered version of the fenderless Muroc. The fenders and running boards were fabricated by master metalsmith, Marcel DeLey. Knowing that only 10 of them would be built (this one is number 3), Magnuson snapped up one of the cars. Built over a complete Kugel Komponents rolling chassis that is purpose-built for the Muroc Roadster, the frame features Kugel suspension front and rear.

As a builder who specializes in making huge horsepower, Magnuson wanted his creation to have a lot of performance, so he had Kenny Dutweiller build him an LS1, which of course features a Magna Charger supercharger as its induction source.

Please stop by the store and pick up your FREE copy of DRIVE to read the complete article. Lots of photos as well.

BUILD BOOK by Team Killeen

BUILD BOOK  is a serial publication that is designed to highlight today's top professionally built vehicles by today's top professional builders using quality parts.

BUILD BOOK follows the build process "from Concept to Reality" of the featured vehicle in more depth and detail than any monthly magazine, and is designed to allow the professional parts and services manufacturers to highlight their products exclusively, along with in-depth information about the showcased product.

For the premier issue, BUILD BOOK #1 highlights Sick Fish, the 1970  Barracuda owned by Joe Rogan and built by Rad Rides by Troy in Manteno, Illinois.

With over 800 photos and in 180 pages, BUILD BOOK chronicles the 'Cuda's journey from the day it was purchased to the day it was delivered to Rogan, as documented on the "Rides" television program on Discovery's The Learning Channel (TLC).

"When the idea of BUILD BOOK was conceived, the goal was to create a product that didn't exist in publishing for the aftermarket car-building industry," says Scott Killeen. "Because of the limited space in a magazine, the true heroes get the short end of the deal. I'm talking about the talented people behind the build that devote endless time, creativity, and hard work to produce that spectacular vehicle."

From concept to reality, BUILD BOOK exists to present the entire story to allow you to appreciate the talent of shop owners, fabricators, body men, painters, car owners, and parts manufacturers during their quest to show the world such passion for building cars.

On The Cover
of
Traditional Rod & Kulture Illustrated

Story by Brandon Flannery
Photos by Michael Chase

There is something to be said for a truck, and something to be said about your first automobile. Trucks are just cool. Tooling around in a cab with a bed behind you and a suspension built to haul things lends a special, utilitarian essence to driving. They have soul. Your first automobile sears a stamp on your own soul. Learning that particular vehicle, while experiencing the freedom and adventure that it brings is a hard thing to shake.

A young James Hetfield broke his drivers license in on a pickup truck and had a growing desire to own another as he settled into the family life. The thought of cramming everyone across a bench seat wasn't pleasant, so the hunt was on for an extended cab.

James had long been a '56 fan, and in 2006 he found an F100 in Kansas that had already been extended. He brought it home and began tinkering with it in his spare time. It had been outfitted with a 455ci Olds motor and an ugly 8' ramp bed that was quickly discarded. He had visions of dropping kids off at school in a simple, nice driving truck.

The weekend kicks off Saturday evening as Christi Edelbrock, Edelbrock Vice President of Purchasing and event organizer, hosts a special gala dinner and charity auction at "Vic's Garage" located within Edelbrock's facility in Torrance, CA.

This fundraiser includes an evening of classic cars, a VIP dinner, live and silent auction, entertainment and celebrity guest appearances. Tickets are $125, with a 10% discount on reservations for tables of 10.

"Supporting America's youth throughout the country and the community is something that we are very passionate about" states Christi Edelbrock. "It's so amazing to me what we can do together to make the dreams come true for young individuals. Given the right opportunities America's youth can contribute so much to our society, my goal is to provide opportunities to learn, scholarships and job placement in the workplace. We have national support for these initiatives and this is only the beginning."

All event proceeds go to the Center for Learning Unlimited.
