Elevator CompetitionIn Other News...

USF's College of Business will host an elevator competition - actually held in an elevator - to help students practice giving a one-minute speech describing their education, skills, and aspirations. Why? Because first impressions matter. Scholarship prizes will be awarded to the top three graduate and top three undergraduate students. Participants must attend at least one workshop (March 17, 19, and 22) to participate. For more information, click here.

Last year, business student Demelza Hays was chosen as one of 12 students - from more than 6,000 applicants - to receive the Critical Language Scholarship. Today, she is a finalist for the prestigious Fulbright Program grant and the Critical Language Enhancement Award to study the Punjabi language in India. Read more

Alumni Notes

Jacqueline Pope (90, MAcc) was promoted to the position of vice president at BB&T in Tampa. She specializes in mid-market equipment finance for Florida businesses. She was previously an account executive at Siemens Financial Services, Synovus Capital Finance, GE Capital, and ITT Commercial Finance.

Brian Killingsworth
(02, MBA) recently accepted the position of vice president of marketing and brand strategy with the St. Louis Rams. He was formerly the senior director of marketing and promotions with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ryan Spellins
(11, finance) recently accepted a financial analyst position with the Controllers Division of Goldman Sachs in the Salt Lake City office. Spellins was a 2010-2011 USF College of Business honoree.

an associate professor in the Marketing Department, published "What Do These Clinical Trial Results Mean? How Product Efficacy Judgments are Affected by Data Partitioning, Framing, and Quantification" in Organizational Behavior & Human Decision Processes. 

Balaji Padmanabhan
, an associate professor in the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department, published "From Information to Operations: Service Quality and Customer Retention" in Transactions on Management Information Systems. He has the following articles forthcoming: "From Business Intelligence to Competitive Intelligence: Inferring Competitive Measures Using Augmented Site-Centric Data" in Information Systems Research and "Discovery Periodic Patterns in Sequence Data: A Variance Based Approach" in INFORMS Journal on Computing.

Graduate Programs Information Sessions

March 3 & 20, 2012

 

Two graduate programs information sessions will be held in March. The March 3 session will take place at 11 a.m. in the College of Business, in BSN 115. On Mar. 20, the session will be held at the Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport Westshore. To register, click here.

 

 
NASBITE International Trade Certificate Program
April & May 2012
 
The Small Business Development Center will host a series of NASBITE International training programs to teach individuals how to conduct business on a global level. The cost is $350 for seven modules. For more information, click here

Murthy Visit

N.R. Narayana Murthy, a co-founder and chairman emeritus of Infosys, will visit USF. During his visit, there will be several opportunities to meet with Murthy and hear him speak. Stay tuned; more details will be available in the coming weeks. 

Accounting Circle CPE Conference
May 17& 18
 
USF's Accounting Circle will host its annual CPE Conference at the Tampa Convention Center. The conference qualifies for 16 CPE credits. 11 of the credits meet the accounting and auditing requirement. The cost is $375. For more information, click here.
