This last weekend I was involved in facilitating a retreat at the Self Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine for a group of volunteers from across the United States. In the afternoon, we had a moving discussion about a time in our life when we were at our best. A time when we were able to express our deepest Self, our essential nature and be fully present in that interaction. A time when our uniqueness was called forth and we made a contribution that seemed to make a real difference. Each individual had an opportunity to share and everyone was instructed to listen from the heart and get out of the mind. I suggested "focus in your heart and listen without judgement. Don't think about what the other is saying but simply open and absorb what is being said from a deeper non-judgemental place. Find a receptive place in your heart to hear what is being said. The room instantly became filled with a loving, open presence that invited each person to share intimate details. A sense of caring, interest and love touched all those who were present. Some individuals had never listened so well and felt so present in an interaction. I was impressed by how deeply people were touched by the simple process of listening without judgement from a loving, heartfelt place. Too often we are so preoccupied that our mind is jumping around when we are attempting to relate to others. Think how much your wife, children, friends, or co-workers would appreciate having your full attention and interest. Think how much you would appreciate having someone really be there, 100%, when you are talking to them. You can make this happen. It only takes a choice to be present, open your heart and really listen. Avoid offering advice, making suggestions and interrupting. Perhaps one of the greatest gifts you can offer is to offer yourself. I know those around you will be grateful. I was honored to participate in a very special golf
charity to support the Unforgetables. A foundation that
provides financial help to parents who have lost a
child. This benefit generated over $100,000.00 for this foundation. It was a golfer's paradise with PGA professionals offering their time and advice to support this event: The group included Dave Stockton Sr and Jr., Don Poley, Morris Hatalsky, Mark Johnson and Troy Martin. I donated 124 of my Find the Zone II CD's so every particpant could get one and spent the day on the Par 3 10th T to help players with the mental game. It was a great day: wonderful players, good weather and great food.
