I recently visited the PGA Golf Expo in Las Vegas and saw a couple of products that impressed me. The show was fun with a lot of golf gadgets, clothes, food and clubs. Being more interested in the sports psychology part of the game, one product jumped out as the leader of the week: The Groove. The Groove is a timing and focus-training program for golfers. The Groove has a neuro-motor engagement program that uses a patented auditory and visual guidance system to help golfers develop more precise timing and locked in focus. The device connects with your computer and is fun to use. It is great for young kids and adults.

The Groove is a revolution in brain training. A study published in the Journal of General Psychology found that golfers trained on The Groove showed a 20% improvement in accuracy across every club tested. The Groove trains golfers with a neuro-motor engagement regimen originally designed to improve coordination and focus in stroke victims and ADHD patients. By developing mind-body integration and focus, The Groove makes it easy for golfers to get into a rhythm and maintain it throughout a round. The result is consistency, what every golfer wants and few have been able to attain. Drop me an email if you are interested in this training device.

Next Generation of Odyssey Two-Ball Putter Look for the newest Odyssey putter in your pro shops. This putter is almost identical to the standard 2-ball putter but they have added a little more weight to the bottom by filling in the indented areas and added some back ground lines to help line up your putts. I wanted to buy it on the spot, but they were not giving up their demo stock.

    The Nikken Solution to Wellness

Does your lower back ache from too much golf? Are you tired after 18 holes of golf? Do you wake up feeling stiff? Do you sleep all night and wake up without feeling rested? If you answered yes to any of these common complaints, you might be interested in a non-medical approach than can help your general state of well-being and your golf game.

Many professional athlethes are finding the magnetic products are keeping them in the game and helping them manage injuries. Jim Colbert of the Champions Tour uses the Nikken Magnetic sleep system and other products to help him play every day. He believes that the magnetic therapy is why he has been able to play every day.

VJ Sing wears the magnetic shoe inserts. His game speaks for itself. Steve Antonopulos, Head Athletic Trainer for the Denver Brocos, stated, "I personally feel these products have provided positive value in treating our players. They certainly have value in treating, not only athletes, but our general population."

Ed McCaffrey, wide receiver, stated, "The quality of my sleep and energy levels were improved so profoundly, that I make sure that a sleep system travels with me for all road games."

RESEARCH FINDINGS The magnetic shoe inserts were tested in a double blind study with diabetic patients. After four months of use, there were statistically significant improvements in numbness, pain and tingling. These results were published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, vol 84. no 5, May 2003.

Kazuo Shimodaira, M.D., in Tokyo, Japan, published a double blind study with the magnetic mattress pad. He observed patients over a tweleve month period and found statistically significant results with shoulder pain and stiffness, back and lower back pain, lower limb pain, insomnia, and fatigue.

Personal Findings: Some of my golf buddies have complained of knee, foot and back problems. I am surprised how quickly the aches and pains have gone away with the use of the products.

THEORY: The main theory to explain this form of help is as follows: Blood Circulation is increased because the iron in the red blood cells is effected by the magnetic field. Increased blood flow brings more oxygen to the cells and helps with the release of toxins through the cell walls.

A physician also suggested that the magnetic field has some positive effect on the nervous system, helping the nerves to re-align to their proper firing sequence.

The products in the picture are ideal for golfers. The shoe inserts provide more balance, energy and stability; the back pad provides more circulalion to the lower back; and the magnetic balls are used to increase circulation and flexibility during the round.

If you are interested in finding out more about how these products might help support your health and wellness, on and off the course, give me a call. (310) 459-9507

    Find the Zone Testimonial

I wanted to let you that I recently purchased your cd "Find The Zone". I listened to it the other nite and took many notes. I played the other at my home course now, The Navy Golf Course at Seal Beach. I am a reserve in the navy. I played 7 previous rounds there and nothing lower than a 101. I had averaged 107 with all the scores. I took what notes I made from your cd and applied them the day I played. I went out there and blew all my stats away and also shot a scratch 87. I wanted to thank you for your time it took to make the cd and also teaching many things that I did not know. I truely believe in your teachings 100% plus. I recommend your CD to anyone I know that plays golf.

Presence : You must stay in the moment. Learn to bring your attention to each swing and each shot. Do not let your mind wander off into the future thinking about your score or future holes, and do not let your mind be stuck in the past on previous shots and holes.

The ability to play well requires focused attention and all of your energy and attention at the task at hand. The golf swing is very sensitive to a wandering mind. Any mental activity that is focused away from the moment will interfere with your ability to play your best.

Each time you hit the ball make it the most important thing you do and the only thing on which you are focusing. Put all of your mental energy on each shot. Think only of that shot and of nothing else. Don't think about your score and the entire game. Just stay focused on that shot, shot after shot, after shot. Stay in the moment and remain fully focused as you hit each ball. Let each shot be the beginning of your game. Forget the past, its over. Bring a positive, fresh mental outlook to each shot.

The main idea here is to stay process oriented. Anytime we start thinking about our score we tend to become outcome oriented. Once we are thinking about outcome, we are in the future. The best shots in real life are made in the moment. Our fantasy life is good for imagining shots, but if we really want to hit them great, we need to stay very focused in the present.

    Rhythm, Timing & Tempo

Many players are too mechanical when they are playing and especially when they begin to lose their swing. A focus on mechanics is fine on the range, but when you are playing, you must focus upon your rhythm, timing and tempo.

The fact is that a slower swing speed that hits the sweet spot of the club will generate a longer ball flight than a faster swing that is off center. The only way to sustain good contact over the course of an entire round is to keep your balance (mentally & physically) and develop a swing with a good tempo. Don't try to kill the ball. Use the same swing on all clubs. You will be surprised how much better you play.
