Commonwealth Welcomes Alex Laats
| We at Commonwealth Capital Ventures are very excited to announce that Alex Laats joined the team as a General Partner in April. Alex was previously a Venture Partner at Commonwealth and most recently was the President of BBN's Delta Division. BBN, a CCV III portfolio company, was acquired by Raytheon in October 2009. Alex was also previously the chairman, COO and co-founder of NBX Corporation, a Commonwealth-backed manufacturer of VoIP-based business communications systems. NBX was successfully acquired by 3Com Corporation.

New Investments
| Sand 9: In May, Commonwealth led a $13MM Series B investment in Sand 9. Sand 9 is an early stage technology company dedicated to the design of components that will increase the capabilities of electronic devices and improve reliability at a lower cost than incumbent components. The company is introducing a disruptive MEMS-based oscillator to replace quartz crystal frequency sources in high performance applications such as 3G cellular, GPS and other communications. The funding will be used to accelerate sales and marketing and to expand product manufacturing to volume shipment levels. More
 Acacia: In June, Commonwealth co-led a Series B investment in Acacia. Acacia is an early stage company that has assembled an expert team to create highly differentiated optical subsystems, initially targeting the emerging 100-Gigabit/sec (100G) market. Commonwealth was joined in the B round by Series A investors Matrix Partners and OFS. More

Recent Fundings
| Vela Systems closed on a $6MM Series B round of equity financing led by new investor Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK). Series A investors Commonwealth, GrandBanks, and CommonAngels also participated in the round. The funds will be used to continue expansion and to build on product and market development. More
ByAllAccounts raised $5MM in Series B funding in September to build on its momentum in the institutional financial account aggregation market. The round was led by Castile Ventures with participation from existing investor Commonwealth. More
The Echo Nest secured a $7MM follow-on investment in October. The round was led by Matrix Partners with participation from existing investors Commonwealth and several angels. The funds will be used to support growth of the company's music intelligence platform and expand its team. More
