Summer of Science 2012

All six CONNECT campuses will once again be hosting hands-on science-related programs for young people this summer. Now in its third year, the "Summer of Science" is meant to inspire enthusiasm for invention and exploration and encourage K-12 students to consider entering a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) field.

Massasoit Community College president Dr. Charles Wall states, "We know that we must capture students' interest long before they head to our college campuses if we are to engage them in lives and careers of science and math." Massasoit is offering four, week-long camps this year with topics ranging from water research and STEM creativity to the human body and women in science.

Programming is unique on each campus. Marine Science is the focus at Massachusetts Maritime Academy and at Bridgewater's Whale of a Mystery program. The environment takes the spotlight at the UMass Dartmouth camp. Solar science is the focus of Cape Cod's program and BSU's ACE Aviation Camp incorporates aerospace engineering. Students at Bristol's Kids College can enroll in a range of classes similar to those college students take, from game design and digital photography to robotics and computer programming.

All programs have need-based scholarships available. Click here for detailed information about all of the programs.
