Allison Jones Panel

Mr. Allison Jones (left), Commissioner Richard Freeland, and Ms. Susan Wheltle answer questions on education reform.

The "Pathways to College Readiness and College Success" conference that took place April 13, 2011 in Kingston, MA, attracted over 300 public educators: superintendents, principals, Math and English department chairs, guidance counselors, and college faculty and administrators.

An opening panel on new state and national education policies featured speakers such as Allison Jones of Achieve (a national organization developing the new PARCC assessment scheduled to replace MCAS in 2014-15), Higher Education Commissioner Richard Freeland discussing the Vision Project, and Susan Wheltle of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education introducing the Common Core. Closing sessions brought high school and college and university faculty together to plan "next steps" in fostering curriculum alignment and college readiness.

Conference presentations and videos of the speakers are available on the CONNECT website: www.connectsemass.org, along with a resource list for further reading. Recommendations and plans for follow-up will also be posted to the website when available.
