If you've driven past Mary & John Geisse Soccer Complex in the past couple weeks, you may have wondered "What's going on with all the construction and dirt moving?" Recall, Indianapolis Dept of Public Works (DPW) is addressing drainage issues near West 56th Street and constructing an exit from MJGSC to West 56th.
Not unlike the overall construction of Mary & John Geisse Soccer Complex, the drainage project will be completed in several phases.
Phase one is under way this month. DPW is half way done installing a large drainage pipe that will extend from West 56th Street drainage swale all the way south to the existing drainage structure in the SW corner of the Soccer Tots-u5-u6 fields. We've posted some pictures here: http://www.pikesoccerclub.org/mjgscdrainage.html
The contractor is working his way from the south connection point to the north. Progress was swift until they hit the 1/3 point where the ground (even 10 feet deep) is very wet. The mud slows progress as it may cave back in on the ditch and workers. (Contractor is using standard trench box to protect workers from cave ins.) But the rain delays progress. Next Spring we will plant grass to cover the disturbed pipe line.
There will be large open swale created between the safety mound and 56th Street which will move water into the new drainage pipe.
There will be a new pipe installed under 56th Street to help bring water from north of 56th and the Trail into the new drainage swale.
There will be sub-surface drainage pipe installed just south of the safety mound from the Trail to Colts property line which should help reduce the water that ponds there or slowly moves to the Colts new pond.
There will be sub-surface drainage pipe installed just north of the Tots fields to remove the water that ponds there and into the new concrete drainage pipe.
Finally, in the spring DPW will pave a new entrance/exit from the current paint shed to 56th Street.
The timing of all work depends upon the weather.
Thank you.
