Greetings!
Good luck to former Pike Soccer Club player Lori Lindsey and the USA in Women's World Cup Final on Sunday, July 17, 2pm.
"This Sunday, millions of Americans of all ages and genders will drop what they are doing and tune in to a sporting event. Not NFL football...or the British Open golf tournament, but women's soccer. Specifically, the World Cup finals between the USA and Japan. What makes the USA team so appealing in a nation where women's sports in general, and soccer in particular, have struggled to catch on?" Click hear to read entire USA Today Editorial
Lori Lindsey, former Pike Youth Soccer Club and Pike High School player, is joined by former Carmel United and Ben Davis High School player Lauren Cheney. Indiana has three players on the team!
The United States overcame a determined French side to advance to the finals of the 2011 Women's World Cup on Wednesday, beating France 3-1 courtesy of two late goals from Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan.
USA is in the World Cup final for the first time since it last won the title in 1999, and once again Abby Wambach came up big for these Americans, scoring in a 3-1 victory over France. Wambach broke a tense tie in the 79th minute Wednesday with a monstrous headeroff of a Lauren Cheney corner kick.

"It was a dream come true," said Lindsey. "It was so exciting. We won out first match against North Korea so that match against Colombia was important to solidify our place in the quarterfinals with a win. I wanted to come out and do well for the team. I wanted to play my game and accomplish the simple things in getting back passes and linking the forwards with the defenders. Overall, it was great and so fun to play in front of a sell-out crowd. We got the three points and the win from the game and that was special."
Read what Lori said about working so hard for so many years to do her best: "I had goals in my career, and I believed in myself," said Lindsey. "I wanted to keep playing because I love the sport. It wasn't just about playing for the national team, but to continue to improve as a player and to play at the highest level I could." More about Lori:

Mayor Ballard announced yesterday that Indianapolis Department Public Works will add an entrance to Mary & John Geisse Soccer Complex from West 56th Street and address the drainage issues on both sides of 56th Street. The entrance to MJGSC from 56th Street will line up with the existing north/south access road and connect where our sign is currently located. The drainage plan will "absorb" the rain water that takes a long time to drain on both sides of 56th Street. Although DPW is not addressing drainage or grading of the old north soccer fields, this project should help by carrying away the water that slowly meanders along the south side of the safety mound. Click here for Mayor Ballard's announcement.
