Referees.
Hard to believe we have only 4 more weeks left. We have made improvements every week and I appreciate the effort. Here are a few more areas to think about from John Bates (our resident referee educator):
· Hand signals, most refs were doing a good job telling the players the restart (Goal Kick, Corner, etc) but hand signals were either too brief or non existent
o Be sure to use hand signals
o Hold them long enough for the players to see, also for the coaches & fans who don't hear the ref
· The referee should control the substitutions at U10 & U12. Substitutions were made on an indirect free kick in a game
· No "do overs" on throw ins at U10 & U12 - the players should know how to do them correctly by now
o Definitely tell the players and the coach what the infraction was (lifted foot, over the line etc.)
· AR's need to be in line with the 2nd to last defender or the ball, whichever is closer to the goal
o Don't anticipate the play
o Move with the ball when it goes past the 2nd to last defender
· Remember: a goalkeeper can only pick up a ball inside the penalty area.
Ok, that's enough for now. Please look at the next 2 weeks as we have openings we need to fill.
