Looking for a Spring 2011 Travel Team

Although most Indy Burn teams are full, there occasionally is a team that could add a player or two.  This is often the case with the U15-U19 Spring only teams as the non Premier teams don't fill up until the winter.  Indy Burn accepts most U8-U9-U10 Academy players.  Many teams that will transition to a larger format of play in June are willing to add a player to their spring season roster (i.e. U10 teams going to 8v8 in June, U12 teams going to 11v11 in June).

If you have a friend who is looking to join a good travel team with a good coach and excellent Club Coaches, Technical Trainers, and GK coaches, please ask them to contact their age groups Head Coach.  The coach may invite your friend to attend one of the indoor training sessions at Sportzone in January to see if there is a match.  Otherwise, the coach may refer your friend to another Indy Burn coach.

Want to know if there is an opening on an Indy Burn u9-u19 team or results of Evaluations?  Call Coach.  If you're looking for a good team call the Coach to learn if there are any open roster spots.  Teams with open spot(s) include: U18 girls Blue team, U17 girls Premier and U17 girls Blue teams.  Click here for additional information.

Former Indy Burn Player Perry Kitchen Selected No. 3 in MLS Super Draft

Perry Kitchen, a former player for Indy Burn '90 Boys Premier Eagles team, was selected third overall by D.C. United in the MLS Super Draft on 1/3/11.  Kitchen, a native of Indianapolis, helped the University of Akron Zips to their first-ever NCAA title last fall as a freshman.  The Zips defeated Louisville, 1-0, in Santa Barbara, CA, on Dec. 12 to capture the school's first team national championship in any sport.

Former Indy Burn Eagles Coach Isang Jacob, now Penn State University Men's Assistant Coach, recalls, "From day one that Perry came to the Indy Burn 90' Eagles tryouts, I knew he was a special player.  He became Team Captain.  Perry always brought his best performances to practice and during games.  DC United has a "fine young man" that will no doubt become the face and model franchise player in years to come.  I, and his former Eagles teammates, wish Perry all the best as we continue to follow his new adventures in the pros and with the US National teams."

PSC Soccer Director Dan Kapsalis made the announcement to all Indy Burn Coaches during the 1/13/11 coach meeting.  Coach Kapsalis explained how the vast majority of youth players don't continue the sport into high school.  That fewer still play for a college team.  There are so very, very few players who then can play professionally.  Perry Kitchen's accomplishments are incredible and he is richly deserved of our Club's congratulations.

We're pleased the Kitchen family played at Pike Soccer Club for a short time along Perry's rapid rise to the top of his game.

"How Active Are Kids' Sports?

The  USA Today featured two articles on "How Active Are Kids' Sports?"  Not surprisingly, youth soccer is at the top of the most active sports with 7 to 14 year old boys active 57 minutes and girls 54 minutes at training.  A second study found only 16 minutes of exercise separates fit from unfit kids!  Click here to Read both articles.

Pike Soccer Club Community Rec League (and Indy Burn Plus division) prides itself on keeping rosters small enough to keep your child playing most of the game.  However, key to fitness is for our children to play hard for at least 60 minutes every day.  Play 60 is a program by PSC Sponsor Indianapolis Colts.  Click here for additional information.
