· FPP Member Evan Goldman, Manager of Public Affairs and Organizational Development for the Children's Services Council of Broward County, was honored by Congressman Alcee L. Hastings with the Angels in Adoption Award, presented to an individual, couple or organization that has made extraordinary contributions on behalf of children in need of homes. Congratulations Evan!
FPP News
A lot has happened behind the scenes... 
  • The FPP is an official 501(c)(3) organization
  • Funding has increased by more than 200%
  • Membership has increased by more than 300%
  • The organizational structure has been strengthened with updated bylaws, recently completed board member elections by the current board, and a new Board of Governors coming in January
  • Two new positions have been hired at the FPP:
    • Director of Strategic Initiatives - Bill Mills
    • Coordinator of Special Projects - Penny Zaphel
  • Bank on Florida soft launched
  • The second Florida Prosperity Caucus is being planned for February 2011
  • Language is being proposed to amend the Florida Volunteer Protection Act to specifically protect VITA volunteers
  • The FPP is partnering with the University of Florida to help them roll out Florida Master Money Mentors
  • The FPP is convening the first Bank On Florida Advisory Council
  • On a national level, the FPP has participated on a task force to include regular Schedule C preparation at VITA sites, to influence policy for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Bank On USA at the U.S. Department of Treasury, and has advocated on Capital Hill to get the VITA Act 2010 passed along with other tax and savings legislation.

Institute's REI Tour's 5th Annual Mayor's Leadership Academy in Chicago on November 3 & 4.  FPP Board Chair Janet Hamer and President Kaye Schmitz presented information about the FPP's inclusiveness for persons with disabilities at the Chicago meeting.  Also attending from Florida were FPP Board Members Barbara Travis, Michael Roush, and Maureen Quinlan, and FPP Members Kara Moore, and Frances Penha.

At this conference you will receive information on progress the FPP-your statewide collaboration-has made during the past year, hear from state and national speakers, gain knowledge about innovative initiatives from your peers and have an opportunity to present your own unique and successful programs.  And all of this from a beautiful setting that can't be beaten. There is even a surprise brewing from the greater Tampa metropolitan area, your FPP Regional Host location.
 
The following is the timeline for FPP Conference Workshop Proposals:
  • December 6, 2010 - Call for proposals for workshop presentations will be available on the FPP website (www.floridaprosperitypartnership.org)
  • February 1, 2011 - Deadline for workshop proposal submission
  • March 15, 2011 - Proposal submitters will be notified whether or not their proposal was selected
  • May 6, 2011 - PowerPoint presentations and other materials will be due to FPP

Coming In January - FPP Membership Fee
The Board of Directors of the Florida Prosperity Partnership has announced that there will be an FPP membership fee beginning January 1, 2011. The fee will be $100 per organization and those organizations wishing to become members will have until the end of April 2011 to pay. 

Paid members will receive the benefit of:
  • Networking and educational opportunities from local, state, and national organizations
  • Engaging with their peers at semi-annual regional meetings throughout the state to learn about and/or share new and innovative programs 
  • Already created templates, relationships, and tool kits for such statewide programs as Bank On and Ways to Work
  • Advocacy efforts with the unified voice of more than 120 organizations about issues selected by the members themselves
  • Unified outreach and referral efforts for client programs through regular communications and through Florida 2-1-1 systems
  • PLUS...a discount of $50 off the annual conference registration fee for all attendees from paid member organizations. 
Be sure to watch this space for information on where to send your membership fee in 2011.


Regional Meetings a Huge Success
Thank you to all of the hosts and attendees at the fourth series of FPP Regional Meetings that took place in October and November.  The meetings began in late October and concluded in mid-November. 

Thank you specifically to:


Dr. Michael Gutter of the University of Florida and his team of County Extension Agents, who presented the "Florida Master Money Mentor" program to all of the participants at the Regional Meetings

Bill Mills, FPP Director of Strategic Initiatives and Janet Hamer of the Federal Reserve Bank and Board Chair of the FPP, who presented on Bank On Florida and upcoming events

Joan Nelson and the gang at Heart of Florida United Way, who hosted the first Regional Meeting in Orlando on October 25. They had special presentations from:
  • Debbra Groseclose and Linda Brost about Ways to Work  
  • Evan Goldman of Smart Horizons, regarding Career Online Education
  • Brady Koch about the benefits screening process at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida

Amanda Clements and Megan Earnhardt of United Way of the Big Bend who hosted the next Regional Meeting in Tallahassee on October 27. The Tallahassee group had special presentations from:
  • Amber Tynan about Bank On Big Bend
  • Ted Granger, who spoke about new legislative language for the Florida Volunteer Protection Act.

Susan Senkarik, who hosted the Regional Meeting at the WaterColor Inn at Santa Rosa Beach on October 28.  We also thank the St. Joe Corporation and the WaterColor Inn for contributing the meeting space, snacks and for helping to arrange for county speakers on Economic Development in the area.

Jeff Winkler and the team at the Real$ense Prosperity Campaign (an initiative of United Way of Northeast Florida), who hosted the meeting in Jacksonville on November 10. Special presentations were made in Jacksonville by:
  • Karen Landry about Bank on Jacksonville
  • Jeff Winkler about the Schedule C Pilot being conducted at Northeast Florida VITA sites and the D2D Fund Video Game Pilot

Ellen Stoffer and the team at United Way of Tampa Bay, who hosted their meeting in Tampa on November 16. Special presentations at the Tampa meeting included:
  • Cameron Anderson, a Jim Casey Youth Fellow who spoke on aging out of foster care, starting an IDA and using it to go to college and begin his own business, and the importance of having a mentor
  • Elaine Taylor and Cynthia Smith about the Ways to Work program
  • Blake Wheeler, who spoke about the Students in Free
    Enterprise program

Roger Mercado and Cliff Smith at United Way of Lee, Glades, and Hendry Counties, who hosted the meeting in Ft. Myers on November 17. In Ft. Myers, the program included special presentations from:
  • Roger Mercado about Bank On Lee County
  • Elliott Rittenhouse about the Southwest Florida Microenterprise Project
  • Linda Brost about Ways to Work

Kasha Owers and her team at United Way of Palm Beach County, who co-hosted the meeting in Boynton Beach with Daniella Levine of the HSC in Miami-Dade (soon to be Catalyst Miami!) and Sandra Bernard-Bastien of the Children's Services Council of Broward County on November 18. Their special presentations included:
  • An update on the Southeast Florida Common Eligibility Coalition by Kasha Owers
  • Bank On South Florida by Mary Lynn Lovejoy (see the Save the Date section of this newsletter for the upcoming Bank On South Florida meeting on December 8 in Broward County)
  • Ways to Work by Linda Brost
  • Updates for each of the three county initiatives by Kasha, Daniella, Sandra and their teams.

FPP will work with your financial institutions, community organizations and local governments to effectively develop a comprehensive Bank On program.

The Children's Home Inaugural Banquet
Revealing Truth Ministries is partnering with The Children's Home, an ongoing relationship for more than 13 years, to host an inaugrual banquet on December 4, 2010, which will benefit The Children's Home and The Truth Dome.  The featured guest will be Carman!  This banquet will bring more awareness to the needs of The Children's Home and help mitigate their annual expenses.

Credit Reports Available for People Who Are Visually Impaired
The three major credit reporting companies in the United States have been making free credit reports accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired for almost two years in Braille, Large Print or audio format. The reports are also available on-line in an accessible format. Every United States citizen is entitled to one free report every twelve months from each of the three companies, Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. The three reports can be requested at the same time or at different times over a twelve month period.  (Not all sites that claim to provide free reports actually have free reports, and not all of those sites are accessible). Have your clients who are visually impaired visit annualcreditreport.com, the official free credit site, or call 877-322-8228.

The Florida Prosperity Partnership (FPP)
The Florida Prosperity Partnership (FPP), was formally established in March 2009, evolving from a number of parallel and earlier efforts to create a statewide coalition dedicated to improving the financial stability and capability for low-to-moderate income Floridians.

FPP PURPOSE:  To convene individuals and organizations with the desire to leverage their talent, resources, and passion to improve the prosperity of Florida's families.

FPP VISION:  All Floridians have equal opportunities to attain financial stability.

FPP MISSION:  Establish a statewide collaboration holistically focused on providing life-enhancing services to Floridians.
