Life on the Creek!

We are frequently treated to the sight of fish jumping as we paddle along the creek. One of the most common of these fish is the juvenile menhaden.

During the July full moon paddle thousands of menhaden put on a spectacular show flashing silver in the moonlight as they leapt from the water around our boats. Menhaden have been referred to as the most important fish in the sea. They filter tons of water as they feed for plankton and other microscopic organisms.

Menhaden spawn in the open ocean and their buoyant eggs wash into coastal bays and estuaries, which provide nurseries for the juvenile menhaden. Menhaden provide a major food source for other species such as striped bass and bluefish.

Amazing July Paddles

The month of July started off with a bang with a July 4th Fireworks Paddle from Castaways Campground. Our vantage point on the bay provided great viewing for the Ocean City Inlet fireworks as well as numerous other fireworks displays along the bay. The July heat didn't slow us down as we enjoyed some beautiful paddles along Ayers Creek.

We had a blast hosting camps for Ocean Pines Recreation Center and Stephen Decatur Middle School Summer Academy. The kids did a great job paddling and also enjoyed swimming, seining, water balloon battles and cooling off under the sprinkler. If you haven't visited in a while, come on out for a fun day on the creek.

Full Moon Paddle

Full Moon PaddleOne of our favorite tours is the Full Moon Paddle. We are treated to a beautiful show each time as we watch the sunset then paddle back with the moonrise. It is a pleasure to get to know our guests better as we relax around the post paddle bonfire enjoying wine from Fenwick Wine Cellar and a delicious local cheese and sweets tray from The Shark on the Harbor. Be sure to join us for a full moon paddle on August 12th, 13th, or 14th.
