Ayers Creek Paddler

Winter 2011
Winter on the Creek

Winter on the creek has been beautiful.  The snow and ice have transformed the view into an enchanted wonderland.  Although the ice has been abundant so has the wildlife.  We have enjoyed large flocks of migratory geese and a vast array of ducks including buffleheads, mergansers, mallards and black ducks.  There has also been a juvenile bald eagle spending a lot of time sitting on the ice just off our launch point.  He has a full white head, but he is still going through some interesting molting on his body and tail.  A mature bald eagle recently perched near the launch to feast on a carp he had just pulled from the water.  Each day there is something new and interesting to observe.
