Greetings!

TopFor the young girls at Youth Homes, the Cinderella experience most young girls have during their sweet 16 or preparing for a school dance is something far from their reality, but recently they were given a unique once in a lifetime opportunity. It all started with an idea.

Amy Williams, Associate Professor and Chair at the California College of the Arts visited Dress on College Avenue in Oakland. Dress is a shop that rents high end prom, cocktail and black tie event dresses and gowns.  Jahonna German, owner of Dress, had many dresses to give away with tears and rips in need of mending.

Amy acquired the gowns and assigned them to

her sophomore fashion students as a special project. Each year the college encourages their students to participate in

engaged projects to reach out and serve the greater community. Many dresses were lovingly mended and presented to Youth Homes girls to try on and choose from at the Dress event.

Everyone loves cupcakes!!

As part of this special day, Eurydice Manning of James and the Giant Cupcake donated cupcakes, and Merritt King of Cocoon Bare donated free waxing for the girls.

Thank you to all those that donated your time and energy to make this possible.

Thank you for allowing Youth Homes girls to have a Cinderella Day!

SuccessYouth Homes Success Story

Little Sam was removed from his mother on his 3rd birthday.  He had been in and out of foster care since he was born. His mother always tried to get him back but couldn't keep him safe due to her own mental health issues.  Sam's temper tantrums and other behavioral problems were so severe no foster home could be found that would keep him more than a month or two.
Then, Sam came to live in one of Youth Homes foster homes last summer and now is doing wonderfully!

He has been with us for 9 months and his behavior has improved tremendously.  He now has friends at his pre-school for the first time.  His social worker is now thinking he will be able to be adopted within the next few months.  Sam celebrated his 4th birthday with his (FFA) Foster Family Agency staff and foster parents.
