Event Recap: RSA Conference 2012
|
"The Paradox of Security: Is the Status Quo Acceptable?" was held Monday, Feb. 27 at RSA Conference 2012 with an audience of 400 attendees. The session included a number of sessions and a boxed lunch, as well as demonstrations of widely available network security solutions, self-encrypting drives and systems protected with the Trusted Platform Module, all based on TCG specifications.
This year's seminar focused on how users have deployed Trusted Computing. A panel that included healthcare, pharmaceutical and nonprofit enterprises noted how they use self-encrypting drives. Other sessions addressed Trusted Computing for cloud security and securing mobile systems. Attendees also learned about using a hardware root of trust as an anchor for data leak and malware prevention; platform integrity; device and user identity; and network access for fixed and mobile devices used enterprise-wide.

New Membership Tier: Associate
|
Now that key concepts of Trusted Computing, such as the hardware root of trust, are firmly embedded into products, TCG is turning to enterprise users and others who must implement security and IT solutions. These users have informally participated from time to time via vendors, but TCG now has opened up a new class of membership so large enterprises, service providers, integrators and resellers can actively participate in the future development of real-world Trusted Computing solutions. The new Associate membership tier will give these users the opportunity to review new specifications as well as participate in solutions work groups or create new ones. TCG currently has several solutions work groups - Embedded Systems, Trusted Multi-tenant Infrastructure, Trusted Mobility Solutions - that are creating ways to implement Trusted Computing Group specifications.

Marketplace Adoption of TCG Technology
|
One trend noticeable in the late 2011/Q1 2012 was the large number of ultra book PCs introduced that included TPMs for security. For more information please click here.
Demonstrating continued interest in network security and growing demand for standards-based product, TCG's Trusted Network Connect Work Group concluded its spring Plugfest March 22, 2012 in Darmstadt, Germany. Over three days member companies were invited to test the interoperability of TNC products. A neutral third party vendor was on hand to record the results of testing for IF-MAP, IF-PEP, IF-IMC/IF-IMV, IF-TNCCS, IF-TNCCS-SOH, IF-M and pre-release code. The opportunity to record videos of the interoperable demos was also provided at this event.
In another Q1 2012adoption highlight, a number of TCG members announced new drives, including HDDs, SSDs and enterprise drives, based on TCG's Opal specification for self-encrypting drives. Please check out this article from RSA Conference 2012. In addition, several of TCG's software vendor members have announced supporting software for these drives in the last few months.

Basics of Cloud Security
Cloud evolution can be considered synonymous to banking system. In good old days, people used to keep all the valuable assets (money, precious metals, stones etc.) in their personal possessions and even in underground lockers. They could not trust the bank for depositing their hard-earned money. Banking system evolved over the period of time and it took them almost half a century to build that trust. Regulators all across the world played big role in creating a trusted legal and secured framework for banking and other financial services. Today, we hardly keep any cash; most of us carry plastic money and transact digitally...Read more.
Cyber Security: The Carrot and the Stick
Governments are deploying both the carrot and the stick in their efforts to get to grips with the growing threat of cyber crime. Around the globe they are updating their data protection and compliance laws that will mean all organisations must not only protect data on their IT systems, but also prove that they have made the best efforts to do so. Perhaps the most-publicised of these updates came in January when the EU announced its new data-protection regulations, a mandate that affects every company and organisation both inside the European Union and across the world...Read more.
