It is estimated that approximately 21% of older adults have both hearing and vision loss by the time they reach 70 years of age.1
More than 15 million Americans have Age Related Macular Degeneration, the leading cause of low vision in those age 60 and over. This picture depicts how the 20 to 30 percent of Americans age 75 with AMD see their world:

The light adapted eye of a 20-year-old receives 6 times more light than an 80-year-old. In dark adapted conditions, the 20-year-old eye receives about 16 times more light. In comparison to younger people, it is as though older persons were wearing medium density sunglasses in bright light and extremely dark sunglasses in dim light.2
