We always hear, "April showers bring May flowers," but this year the flowers were brought by YMCA volunteers. The YMCA Youth Investment program is supported by teenagers from our community. Teens actively select, plant, water, and oversee the growth and development of the seeds and seedlings. Seedlings and young plants are sold at the greenhouse in the Valley or planted in the Youth Investment garden located at the North Y facility.

This program takes a young person and cultivates their potential through mentorship and motivation. Over time one can see real growth in these individuals as they come to discover a worthwhile path realizing finally what it means to bloom.
Adin Haines is just one of many volunteers to be affected by Youth Investment, a program passionately supported by the Y for the last eight years. "It's pretty cool to watch a plant grow from a seed to a flower," he said. "It's kind of like I'm the seed trying to grow into a flower."
