A Big Thank You to All Who Visited Us at the California Charter Schools Conference

CK-12 was proud to serve as presenting sponsor of the 18th Annual California Charter Schools Conference in early March and greatly appreciated the many teachers, educators and administrators who visited our booth to learn more about FlexBooks.  The quality of ideas exchanged on achieving academic and operational excellence, and the genuine passion for teaching that was so evident among the attendees, was impressive and invigorating!

We enjoyed sharing the FlexBook experience with the many people who stopped by our booth and look forward to following up with those of you who want to continue the dialogue.  On a fun note, we also want to share with you the names of the lucky winners of our iPad drawing:

  • Mary Bush, Director of Student Support Service, Palisades Charter High School, Pacific Palisades, CA
  • Kelly Ford, Guajome Park Academy, Vista, CA
  • Brandy Price, 1st grade teacher, Barack Obama Charter School, Los Angeles, CA
  • Greg Wood, CFO, Palisades Charter High School, Pacific Palisades, CA

CK-12 has created a video library of tutorials on key FlexBook processes, with topics relevant to new and experienced users.  These instructional videos cover a variety of topics, from Basic Customization (book assembly, basic chapter editing, and creating chapters from scratch) to Advanced Customization (adding images, adding multi-media elements).  The Learning Center also includes tutorials on how to print and share FlexBooks.  You can view the videos at http://www.ck12.org/about/tutorials/.

Human Biology Teacher Guides - In response to the interest generated by last month's information on CK-12's new Human Biology: An Interdisciplinary Life Science Curriculum (http://www.ck12.org/flexbook/books/humanbiologycurriculum/) we wanted to let people know that the accompanying Teacher Guides are available to teachers upon request to teachers-requests@ck12.org.

FlexBooks have been a great tool to use in my honors classes as another way to explain the topics.

Notes from Neeru

Correlating CK-12 FlexBooks with state standards has been a top priority of the CK-12 team and I'm extremely pleased to announce that a selection of FlexBooks are currently aligned with the 50 U.S. states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

This is a tremendous accomplishment, and one that is critical to broadening the use of our free FlexBooks nationwide.

As complete standards correlation reports of CK-12 FlexBooks for each state become available, they can be accessed here http://www.ck12.org/about/standards.

We sincerely hope you will check out what our FlexBooks have to offer - and encourage you to share your best practice ideas with us (lesson plans, favorite problem sets, etc.) so we can enhance our FlexBook content on an ongoing basis.  If we work together, great things will continue to happen!
