5th Grade Beautifies Spirit and Campus
Trash
Many thanks to the 5th grade class who took a spin around campus recently cleaning up trash as part of their Faith class lesson on responsibility and community.
Cross Country Races to Victory
Cross county
From Coach Amy:
I would like to start out by saying, once again how in awe I am of each and every one of your children. Our last meet was the hardest course they will face this season, a majority of the race was uphill. As they took off from the starting line they began the steady climb up an asphalt hill that winds up and around the back of the campus. Then rounding the corner of the parking lot down the lane to cheers from parents, runners began the dirt portion of the run where they found themselves again hitting a hill back up and around the perimeter of Sonoma Academy's property. For our 6-8th graders, they endured two laps around the course which came out to be 1.7 miles. Fifth graders ran the course once.

Congratulations to all, with a shout out to Michaela Schillinger who placed first among all the fifth grade girls competing and Annie Neles who placed third among all the sixth grade girls competing.

Being a part of such an energetic, positive and encouraging environment truly makes this cross country experience incredible. When these athletes think the finish line is nowhere in sight and their legs can't possibly inch any further, they find the strength to dig, push and run hard to the end. That moment of "all or nothing" brought me on the verge of tears.

I should also mention we saw a few familiar faces wishing us well during the meet, graduates from Presentation, Jack Greenberg, Cristian Isbrandtsen and Devin Salmonsen (Devin was stationed on the course encouraging our runners on). Wonderful to see their faces!

Our next meet is this Tuesday, October 2 away at Petaluma Christian located on Lakeville Highway. We
will miss the 6th graders as they will be at Mt. Hermon.

Field Day and Student Vs. Teacher Volleyball Game Enjoyed By All!
Vball cheer
Students turned out to cheer on our much-beloved annual volleyball match between the 8th grade and the teachers on Field Day.  Can you tell who these students were rooting for?

Thank you to Mrs. Dusak and the entire 8th grade for leading the school in this annual  student community event.  All students enjoyed the events and there was a great deal of cheering during the volleyball game for both sides.
8th Graders Colonize
Colonies

Our 8th graders last week were each assigned one of the original thirteen colonies to study.  Their objective was to become an expert on their colony and share their knowledge with their peers.

The students will present their  knowledge to the class orally by taking on the persona of an imaginary or real individual who lived in their colony during the 1750's to 1770's. They will be clothed according to their person's station (social class) in life.

For added creativity, students are being asked to utilize their multiple intelligences, and develop another feature to their presentation. For example, using their mathematical- logical and spatial intelligences students can create a pie chart graph depicting the ethnic make up of their colony.  Musical students might find fife and drum pieces to share with the class, or they might make up their own song extolling the virtue of you colony- sort of like a "colony anthem". Ideas for verbal/linguistic learning might include writing a poem about life in their colony.  Those who wish to utilize their bodily-kinesthetic intelligence can to learn a colonial dance or game and demonstrate it.  Visual/spatial learners might create posters advertising the colony to Europeans. Interpersonal learners might include the production and video taping of a skit based on an historic event that took place in your colony, or other ideas for skits.

What a great way for the students to study history while better understanding their individual learning styles!
