Sixth Grade DIGS Their Hands-On Interact Simulation
Dig It

Sixth grade has begun their study of ancient pasts with the unit Dig It!  The students have become archaeologists and studied the stone ages.  They have learned about the development of man and are currently learning the three eras: Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic.  Each era has distinct advances in language, culture and technology.

Presentation Welcomes Bookkeeper Virginia Turner
Virigina
Over the summer, we were sad to lose our much-beloved Finance Director Larry Christensen to another opportunity closer to his home.  We are pleased, however to introduce you to Virginia Turner who will serve as our bookkeeper for the coming year.  Virginia is a graduate of U.C. Berkeley and she has a notable depth of experience as a bookkeeper for a variety of area businesses.  Earlier in her career, she spent eleven years with the Federal Reserve Bank as an Accounting Coordinator and Specialist.  Virginia is excited to help the tuition and incidentals billing process at Presentation go as smoothly as possible.  Please join us in welcoming her to the Presentation family.  Stop by and introduce yourself if you haven't already.

Amazingly, the 2013-2014 school year admissions cycle is already underway.  Do you know of a family who might be interested in the Presentation School for next fall?

Wild Wild West Event to Feature "Golden Ticket"
Golden ticket
This year at the "Imagine An Evening in the Wild, Wild West" party, 100 special golden tickets will be sold at $100 each.  The person whose ticket is drawn at the start of the Live Auction will be able to... on the spot... choose any one of the Live Auction items, several of which have a face value of more than $5,000!

Because only 100 tickets will be sold, your chances to win are terrific!  Attendeees are urged to buy their ticket before the event.  You can buy your numbered 1-100 ticket by replying to this email and charging your school account, or by emailing Nancy Bei at nancybei@comcast.net or by stopping by the school office in person.  Specific information will be available soon on the fantastic Live Auction items.  Thank you to Live Auction Chair Lisa Dierking and to Silent Auction Chairs Alyson Douglas and Jeanine Parlett for their hard work in preparation for this event.  It is their hope that every family will consider donating some form of item to the auctions and each grade is responsible for coming up with one major Live Auction item.

Tables are selling fast so stop by the office soon to reserve your spot!

Student Report on Grade 5 Field Experience

  Water Agency

Our class last week went on a field trip to the Sonoma County Water Agency in Forestville. We toured the Russian River and saw how all of the water gets to Sonoma County. We also saw redwood trees and lots of wild life. We hiked and learned about different kinds of plants and how they survive. We had fun touring the Russian River.

Later we stopped to eat lunch after a long hike. Then we tested the water, the water was the perfect habitat for salmon to live in. After we hiked back we went inside. Inside there were all sorts of fun projects. One of the things we did was look in microscopes at invertebrates. Then we drew a picture of the invertebrate we found and labeled it using  a chart. After that, it was time to leave. As a present, and to remember our field trip, the water agency gave us water bottles! We had a lot of fun and learned about how water gets to Sonoma County!
Second Grade Wows Visitors
Second grade
Perhaps the most inspiring aspect of having visitors on campus over the past two weeks (Head of School candidates) was seeing and hearing their perspective on what is happening in our classrooms at Presentation.  A tour stop in Mrs. George's second grade classroom featured the whole class performing enthusiastic and impressive renditions of four different songs/dances for one of our visitors. Pictured here are the children rocking out to Rockin' Robin for music teacher Mrs. MacArthur.
