Greetings!

Welcome to the 2012-13 School Year
at The Presentation School!

Message from Nancy Fischman:

We extend a warm welcome to our new parents and students and a welcome back to our returning families. The classrooms and the facilities have been prepared for the students' arrival, and the teachers have designed learning experiences that challenge and engage all the children in meaningful learning.  Our school-wide theme is GROWing in Gratitude, Respect, Organization, and Worship and will be incorporated into all our classrooms.  Faculty continues to build upon and refine the integrated curriculum that will prepare students to grown academically, spiritually, socially and physically.  As we move through this year, you will hear more about our continuing growth in the use of technology in teaching and learning.

We are blessed as a community to have the support of the Board of Trustees, faculty, and parents as we continue into our 16th year as the outstanding elementary and middle school in Sonoma Valley!

Go Patriots!

Presentation Welcome Two New Faculty Members
New teachers
Presentation this fall welcomed two new adjunct faculty members to the staff.

Laurie Gaynor joins Presentation to teach 4th and 5th grade Language Arts and 6th grade Math.  She received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Sonoma State University.  Ms. Gaynor has worked as a substitute teacher in the Santa Rosa City School, the Sonoma Valley Unified Schools and Hanna Boys Center. She received her B.S. in Business with a minor in Psychology from San Francisco State University.  When not at school she enjoys teaching swimming and playing water polo.

Marietta Natuzzi, 3rd Grade adjunct teacher, is happy to join the Presentation team again.  Aside from being a guest teacher for the past few years, Mrs. Natuzzi also taught the "Kindercare" program from 2005-2007.

Mrs. Natuzzi received her BA from UCLA and her teaching credential from San Francisco State University.  She substituted for San Francisco Unified School District and Jefferson School District (Daly City, CA) where she landed her first job teaching Kindergarten.  Other experiences in teaching include "Kindergarten Readiness" programs with Jefferson Unified and "English Camp" with the Commonbond Foundation. She enjoys watching plays (especially musical plays), traveling and watching her sons play baseball.

In addition to our full-time teachers in grades K-8, we are fortunate to have returning this year teaching assistants in all of the primary grade classrooms: Amy Doughery assists in the Kindergarten classroom; Jenna Bast assists in the 1st grade classroom; and Katie Isetta assists in the 2nd grade classroom.

Head of School Search Reminders

The Search Committee met for a marathon seven hour resume review and conducted Skype interviews last week and narrowed the candidate pool for the new Head of School to four semi-finalists who will each spend a day at Presentation Sept. 10 - 13. They will meet with our administrative team; our Trustees and Nancy Fischman; with our students in the classroom; and with our faculty.

A large block of time has been set aside for the candidates to meet with our parent community. Please plan to join us from 9:40am to 10:20am on Sept. 10, 11, 12 and 13 to meet the candidates in the library.  Parent will be provided with candidate resumes at that time.

We thank the entire school community in advance for the important role each of you will play in this exciting process.  Please do not hesitate to contact Mark Couchman at 707-486-5448 or August Sebastiani at 707-481-5635 if you have any questions.
First Presentation School/PCI Climbing Camp
a Huge Success
Climbing
In mid-August, seven Presentation students participated in the first-ever PCI/Presentation Climbing team coastal camp. The group traveled along 30 miles of pristine Pacific coastline from Sonoma to Goat Rock to Fort Ross to Fisk Mill Cove and to the Fault Line Hike near Sea Ranch. Campers were led by world-renowned professional climber Kevin Jorgeson and they learned sandstone and Gneiss rock climbing, belay skills, bouldering movement and spotting, environmental awareness and fault line geology... all while have a blast outdoors in gorgeous weather in a beautiful setting.
