Greetings!

7th Grader Renee Serota Competes at
State Science Fair
Renee

Seventh grader Renee Serota recently presented her science project in the materials science junior division of the California State Science Fair.  We believe she was the first student in the history of Presentation to make it all the way to the State competition.

In Los Angeles at the competition, there were nearly a thousand students from all over the State. The event was held at the California Science Center,  a must-see museum with fighter jets suspended overhead, a real space capsule, and many fascinating exhibits.

The projects in the junior division were very impressive, including the grand prize winner, with a electromagnetics project entitled "Arduino-Based Foot Neuropathy Analyzer" by an 8th grade student from Santa Clara. The students were required to be present at their projects for four hours on the day of the judging and were interviewed repeatedly. It was an honor for Renee to be in the company of such dedicated students and adults who volunteered their time and energy.

8th Graders Choose High Schools
10 to Sonoma High
18 to Private Schools/Other Public Schools
Across the Region and Country

Our eighth graders have shadowed at more than a dozen schools, done their research, talked to grads and weighed their options and most have decided where they will attend high school. This is the widest range of choices made by a graduating class in the school's history.  We wish them all the best of luck and are confident in their continued success.  While they are scattering to the corners of the country it seems, the students, their families and the entire school community is convinced that this close-knit class of 28 will stay friends for life.

10 to Sonoma Valley High School
6 to Justin-Siena in Napa
4 to Sonoma Academy In Santa Rosa
2 to Marin Academy in San Rafael
1 to St. Vincent's in Petaluma

1 to Buckingham Magnet School in Fairfield
1 to San Marin High School in Novato
1 to the Kent School in Kent, CT
1 to St. George's School in Newport, RI

Host families needed:

For the 4th consecutive year Sonoma Valley will be home to international students from some of the farthest regions of the globe. Between June 27 and July 24, students from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy & Spain will be in the Valley. Educational Homestay Programs (EHP) is a non-profit language travel provider that has been bringing students from around the world into US communities since 1979.  Host families are asked to open their homes and hearts and to provide meals, an available bed, and transportation to and from the Plaza.  Students do not need their own room. Students speak English, come fully insured, and bring their own spending money.  A network of host families is coordinating car-pooling to and from the drop off every day if needed. If interested, contact local Sonoma Leader Heloisa Heinen at 504-994-4159.
