Presentation Students Attend Filmaking Workshop Hosted by Sonoma International Film Festival
Filmmakers
Kid Scoop News Young Reporter and Presentation Fifth Grader Shawnee Wallace shares her experience at the Sonoma International Film Festival's Middle School Filmmakers Workshop.  She, Genaro Pamatz, Nick Atwood and Regan Andel from Presentation got  the chance to learn how to produce a short video under the instruction of movie-making professionals. You can read her full article here.

In her own words:
On the first day we met at the Boys and Girls Club of Sonoma Valley and everyone introduced themselves and talked about what school they went to. We all got into one big group and an instructor passed out puppets and taught us how to move the puppets and make it look like they where talking, breathing and walking. This art is called puppeteering.

Next, we learned about the camera and filming. The instructor taught us all the angles and shots. After learning all those awesome things we went on a snack break, I looked around the Boys and Girls Club and was amazed to see they had an art room, gym and a huge rock wall. I may think about becoming a member.
When we went back, we practiced more with the puppets and came up with ideas for a PSA (public service announcement). We broke into groups and came up with our own PSA.

On the second day, we thought up some places to shoot our PSA. It took half an hour to shoot our first scene but it was worth it. We all got to work the camera and direct.  Editing was hard but really fun. When we got to see the final cut, thought it was perfectly great.  On the last day, we had to edit and add some things to it. Everyone got to edit and say their opinion about the film.

This camp is very educational and very, very fun. All of the instructors are very educated and teach you everything you need to know about filming.
The Garden Innovators are now the Garden Cultivators!

The Garden Cultivators are a great group this trimester, and they are ready to plant!  Over the next weeks we will be getting the garden cleaned and ready for spring planting.  We are also getting ready for a school-wide garden celebration May 1st.

We are looking for bean, pea, sunflower or corn seeds to be a part of the celebration.  If you would be willing to donate a packet of seeds for the event, please drop them off in the box marked "Seeds" in the office!

Letter from a Presentation Grad

Dear Presentation School,

I received the Presentation School Scholarship from Justin-Siena High School last spring.  I wanted to take this time to show my appreciation for being chosen for this scholarship. It is very rewarding to see all my hard work paying off.  The money is a neat reward that will help to pay for my college education, but more importantly, I am honored to have been chosen as the recipient of this scholarship.

I am grateful that I had the opportunity to attend The Presentation School, which served as the base to all my academic endeavors. All that I learned from elementary school has propelled me through Justin-Siena and now at the University of Oregon.

As I grow older, I have realized how lucky I was to attend such a great school at a young age.  Again, thank you for the scholarship and best wishes to you and the entire Presentation School community.

Sincerely,
Dustin Mertens

Golf Team Starts Season Shortly
kiddos

Presentation School is again offering a co-ed middle school Golf Team this spring as part of our growing sports program. The team will consist of 8-10 members who will participate in 5-7 matches this spring against several local schools, including St. Francis. The program is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.

This program is designed as an opportunity for competitive golf play. It is recommended that all students who are interested in trying out have had golf instruction and have an intermediate level of understanding re: golf rules of play, conduct and scoring. Team members need to have a set of clubs, golf shoes, and golf appropriate attire.   This program is not beginning golf instruction.

First practices for the golf team will be coming this week (Monday, March 26th and Tuesday, March 27th). The practices, led by coaches Mike Nugent and David Grieve will be used to evaluate players and serve as basic skills workshop. We encourage 6th-8th grade boys and girls at all levels of experience to come to at least one of next week's practices to see if the golf team is a good fit.  The cost of participation is $40 and will cover a portion of the hat, shirt and trophies each team member receives.  See handout for more details.
