New Governance Structure and 2013 Retirement of Nancy Waarich-Fischman Announced

Presentation's Board of Trustees announced this week that as our school heads into its 15th year and approaches full enrollment for the first time in its history, it would transition the school governance to a wider structure allowing a greater role for current families, while continuing to receive guidance from our founders.

Announced was a Board of Trustees who will oversee Business Operations and Finance; a new Curriculum Committee who will oversee School Operations, Athletics, Enrollment, and Facilities; and a Founders Committee who will oversee Development, Marketing & Public Relations, Philanthropy, and Diocesan Relations.  All three boards will work together on issues of Governance, Financial Aid and Strategic Planning.

The past and new Board members voted for the Chair position to transfer from Nancy Sebastiani to August Sebastiani, and Nancy Waarich-Fischman announced her plan to retire at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. Nancy Sebastiani will head up the new Founders Committee and Nancy Waarich-Fischman was thanked for everything that she has done to build and grow Presentation over the past four years, and for her willingness to extend her contract one year to ensure the best possible transition and to allow ample time for a well-thought out and executed search for a new Director.

August will be at Presentation with "office hours" from 8AM to 10AM, and from 2PM to 4PM on February 27 & 28.  He can also be reached via email at august@togwines.com, or by cell at (707) 481-5635.

Presentation School is Pleased To Welcome
Christy Titchenal To Faculty
 Christy
Christy Titchenal graduated from Presentation School in 2000.  She went on to be a stand-out student at Ursuline High School and earned the Scholar-Athlete Award as a pyschology major at Stanford University. At Stanford, Christy was a member of the university's top-ranked Division 1 basketball team.  Christy studied abroad at Oxford University in England while in college.  Since graduating, she also completed graduate coursework in speech-language pathology.

We are so fortunate to have Christy working with our children and serving as a role model of all that they can achieve after graduation from Presentation.

Presentation Scores Top Ten Spot at County Spelling Bee

Layla

For the first time in several years, Presentation School Sonoma had a top 10 finisher in the Sonoma County Spelling Bee last week! Layla McDermott, grade 6, came in eighth place overall. And Justine Broadman, grade 4, was one of the most successful 4th graders (competing in the pool of grades 4-6). There were more than fifty competitors representing the top spellers from area schools.

State Equestrian Honors for Fifth Grader Maddy Temkin

Maddie

For the second year in a row, Presentation fifth grader Maddy Temkin has been named the United States Eventing Association Reserve Champion for California's Novice 12 & Under division.

Maddy acquired a new horse this last year by the name of Kasheral and with this horse and her own dedication recently moved up to a higher division. Each year, only one California rider in each age bracket and division are honored as Champion and Reserve Champion.

Maddy's goal this year is to compete in Kalispell, Montana at the Training Level 3-Day Event. Maddy rides and trains along with other young riders with her coach and mom Beth Mahon Temkin at Full Circle Training, LLC here in Sonoma. When asked how Maddy balances being a top student at school with the time commitment of competing, Beth mentioned how appreciative she is of Presentation's support and flexibility.

We wish Maddy and her fellow competitors a safe and successful 2012 horse show season!

Annual Fund -- 10 Reasons to Click Donate Today!

Top Ten Reasons to Support the Presentation School Annual Fund

  1. Tuition only covers about 2/3 of the actual cost of educating a Presentation School student. The $100,000 that the Annual Fund provides each year is one of the main sources of income bridging the gap between what tuition provides and the total operating budget.
  2. More than 20 percent of all students will receive some type of financial aid this year. Financial Assistance makes Presentation as competitive as possible for the most academically qualified students regardless of their financial circumstances.
  3. To enable Presentation School to retain and attract an outstanding faculty who inspire a passion for learning.
  4. Our participation rate is a great measure of overall parent satisfaction and an impressive statistic to share with prospective Presentation School families as a reflection of quality.
  5. Some of the areas that depend on support from annual gifts are: student leadership opportunities, innovative academic programs, student scholarships, campus technology, athletics and arts programs.
  6. Presentation needs adequate resources to keep class sizes small, faculty-student ratios low, and learning opportunities vast.
  7. Investments in the Annual Fund keep tuition increases to a minimum while maintaining the quality of each child's education at the high level expected from Presentation School.
  8. Annual Fund dollars contribute to the operation of campus spaces where students learn and play. From electricity that powers the lights to maintaining the athletic fields, the Annual Fund contributes to the most basic campus needs.
  9. It's no fun to be left behind - You want to be counted in the 100 percent of our families that support Presentation School.
  10. Because 185 students are counting on you!  Annual Fund dollars enhance student life in countless unrecognized but crucial ways. They provide necessities such as microscopes, maps, computer software, art supplies, basketball uniforms, theatre equipment, library online services, and much more.

SCHOOL NEWS:

Hot Lunch:

The March hot lunch menu will be coming home on Monday. Thanks to the Student Council, starting in March, chocolate milk will be available on Fridays.

Tuition Assistance Deadline:

The priority tuition assistance deadline is past but if you expect to need aid, you may still apply (see school web site for hot link).  For questions, or to receive application information, please contact Nancy Waarich-Fischman at 935-0122 or nfischman@presentationschool.com.

Safety First:

In the coming weeks, you will notice several changes that are designed to make our campus safer.  During the hours of 9:00 - 2:30, the side parking lot will be coned off.  We are asking parents and visitors to park in the front lot and then report to the Office.   As Presentation is situated on a large parcel, it is important for faculty and staff to know who is on campus.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Winter worries:

It's that time of the year!  Be on the look out for those tiny creatures that make our students scratch their heads.  If the little critters are found, please contact Mrs. Wallace for information on next steps.

Uniforms:
As the children are growing and you are purchasing new uniform items, please remember that skorts, pants and outwear are to be purchased from either Classic Design or Land's End Presentation list.  Any questions, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.  You will find the uniform policy in the Family Handbook.

Lunch:  Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help with lunches.  We still need After Care volunteers.  Please contact Mrs. Wallace or Ms. Amy if you are interested and would like more information regarding responsibilities.

Box Tops:  We are still collecting Box Tops.  Please bring them to the school office this Monday!  Thank you Terry Mathison for organizing this effort!
