Our truly stellar 7th grade boys basketball team, coached by school parents Todd Schmick and David O'Hara, finished their regular season 6-1 and in second place overall in the entire Middle School Sports League.

Their first playoff game is this Monday at 3:45pm in the Presentation School Activity Center.  The school's Spirit Squad invites every student in every grade to join them on Tuesday in cheering the team on in their attempt to bring home the pennant!

The 7th grade team is comprised of Ryan O'Hara, Carson Schmick, Ryan Angeloni, Nick Atwood, Corbin Cook, Evan Alcantar, Jorge Campos, Riley Robles and Will Gear (some 6th graders play up).

If the team wins on Monday, they will play again on Wednesday afternoon at 3:45pm at Presentation and then the tournament finals will be on Thursday at 5pm at Presentation.   Consolation matches will be at Sonoma Country Day School.  Go Patriots!

Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Community, Friendship, Social Power and  Bullying in Childhood

Recent media attention on bullying in schools has many parents seeing childhood social relationships only through the lens of bullying.  That focus is simplistic and unfortunate because most school communities are a place of tolerance and inclusion, as well as occasional bullying.

For children, the relationship with friends is one of the most important things in their lives, a source of learning and growth. However, all children also discover social power and experiment with teasing and exclusion. In this talk, Dr. Thompson will distinguish between the normal social pain of childhood from which all children learn and actual bullying, which is traumatizing.  He will discuss ways in which communities and schools can make children safer.

Epiphany Celebration
 Epiphany
Last Friday, we had a brief prayer service in the Activity Center at our chapel in honor of the upcoming Feast of the Epiphany. January 6th is the traditional date of the Epiphany, the day on which the Magi would have arrived with their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh for the infant Jesus, the 12th Day After Christmas. This feast day celebrates the manifestation of Christ in human form to the gentiles in the persons of the Magi. The Feast of the Epiphany will be celebrated in the Catholic Mass this year on Sunday the 8th of January.
