Presentation Celebrates First Liturgy of the 2011-2012 School Year
Come and pray! Our first liturgy this year coincides with the 14th anniversary of Opening Day for Presentation School and embraces the theme: "Our Story" as we begin our 15th year.
The past 14 years have been eventful as we grew from 100 students in rented temporary quarters to 184 students in our beautiful permanent site. September 8th is also the Feast of the Nativity of Mary, Patroness of the United States, remembered in the Mary Grotto on our campus. We look forward to seeing many of the school community's members, past and present, as we pray together on September 8th at 11 o'clock in the Activity Center. There is a reception following in the library. Please note that this is a Dress Uniform day for the students.

Presentation School Parent's Association
Speaker Series
Presents: PARENTING IN THE DIGITAL AGE
Speaker: OFER ZUR, Ph.D.

On Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 pm Ofer Zur, Ph.D. will discuss the generational gap between what has been dubbed as "Digital Natives" (the young ones) and "Digital Immigrants" (older adults and parents). It will help parents learn about the digital world of their children, their attraction to Facebook, Twitter and texting, and will propose ideas in regard to the "do's" and "don'ts" of effective parenting of the digitally savvy child. The guidelines to parents are aimed to reduce conflict and tension and increase harmony and collaboration in the home around digital issues.
Dr Zur is a consultant, licensed psychologist, writer, teacher, and lecturer from Sonoma. His recent focus has been on the psychology of the web and how modern digital technologies are affecting our families, relationships, schools, workplace and society at large.
This presentation is geared to parents, teachers and concerned members of our community. Admission is free and babysitting will be available to school parents (see office for details).

Student Council Elections Held

The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade classes gathered on Wednesday to hear the speeches of the new Student Council candidates.
All of the candidates were very enthusiastic and promised to work on many great spirit activities for the whole school including no homework week, an evening of star gazing and the introduction of new colors to the school uniform. A favorite Treasurer slogan was "Count on Someone Who Can Count". Students then received ballots to vote for the Student Council Offices of President, Secretary and Treasurer for the 2011-2 school year.
The elections were close. We are proud of the dozens of students who ran. All candidates were all uniquely qualified and very passionate. Congratulations to the new student body officers (all from the 8th grade): Co-Presidents: Jack Greenberg and Cristian Isbrandtsen Secretary: Gracie Bundschu Treasurer : Alison Gray

SSAT Class Offered on Campus
For the first time ever, The Presentation School is offering an SSAT prep class on campus this fall for 7th and 8th graders. All 12 spots were quickly reserved by 8th graders but the class will be offered again next fall if demand exists. The class will meet in the Science Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school beginning this Tuesday and culminate in a full length scored practice test the first weekend in October. The SSAT is the Secondary School Admissions Test and it is an important part of the admissions process at several area private high schools including Sonoma Academy, Marin Academy and Branson. Preparation for this test is also relevant to the HSPT (used by Justin-Siena) and for eventual PSAT and SAT testing in high school. The class is being taught by a professional SSAT tutor. Presentation is the first middle school in Sonoma to offer a formal prep class for the SSAT. |
