Greetings!

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, welcome to the 2011-12 school year! We are opening the school year with 184 students and twenty new families who come to Presentation from Sonoma, San Francisco, Fairfield and Switzerland. Please join us in welcoming all to our community. To our returning families, we thank you for your trust in our school and look forward to continuing our work together.

As presented at our reception on Monday, our entire community is called to action as we strive to live our mission by providing an educational program that supports each child to reach his or her potential academically, spiritually, physically, and socially. The Board of Trustees has set as its priorities this year goals that will support increasing enrollment, marketing and communication strategies that attract families to our community, a focus on development activities, and increased Board visibility.

The Faculty and Staff are called to action as they work together in Professional Learning Communities to enhance and differentiate the educational program to meet the needs of all learners. Working together, teachers will coordinate curriculum integration in each grade, within each department and across all grade levels. Service to others continues to provide opportunities for our students and families to connect to a world outside our campus.

We invite you, our families, to bring your special talents and passions to our school. Join us in living our mission through your continued volunteer support of school and development programs, participation in the Parent Association events, coaching, working in the garden and the many, many things you do for our students. Working together, The Presentation School will continue to be a growing, visionary, collaborate Community. Here's to the best year ever!

May God bless us in our endeavors together,

Nancy

First Parent Association Meeting:

Tuesday, September 6th, 8:30am, Library

Main Discussion Topic: Community Outreach

Action Item: Brainstorm Ideas for Community Volunteer Opportunities for 2011/2012

Welcome back and we hope that you had a happy summer break. We are excited about the new school year and are looking forward to guiding the Parent Association in 2011/12.

Our Parent Association executive group had an opportunity to meet with Mrs. Fischman this summer; it was a very positive and productive gathering. We discussed our overall goals for the year and made a commitment to highlighting a main topic of discussion for each meeting. Each meeting we will look to YOU - our parent community - to provide us with your thoughts and opinions so that we can truly represent our school community.

For our first meeting, we will focus on Community Outreach. One of the goals that came out of our Parent Association meetings last year was to further our community outreach through student awareness and volunteer work. Our children will learn the importance of giving to those in need while making a difference in our community. We are excited about the difference we can make and the gift of giving that our children will receive! We need your ideas for local organizations that need help. With Mrs. Fischman's guidance, our goal is to select one or two organizations to work with this year.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to working together with you.

Sincerely,

Carolina and Anna

Speaker:  OFER ZUR, Ph.D.

Thursday, September 22, 2011
6:30-8:30 pm
 at The Presentation School
Open to all - no admission fee

Dr Zur is a consultant, licensed psychologist, writer, teacher, and lecturer from Sonoma.  His recent focus has been on the psychology of the web and how modern digital technologies are affecting our families, relationships, schools, workplace and society at large.

This presentation is geared to parents, teachers and concerned members of our community.  It will discuss the generational gap between what has been dubbed as "Digital Natives" (the young ones) and "Digital Immigrants" (older adults and parents).  It will help parents learn about the digital world of their children, their attraction to Facebook, Twitter and texting, and will propose ideas in regard to the "do's" and "don'ts" of effective parenting of the digitally savvy child.  The guidelines to parents are aimed to reduce conflict and tension and increase harmony and collaboration in the home around digital issues.
