Tip 1           Thanksgiving Tips

I let my fingers do the walking through the Google pages and stumbled upon an awesome site for about any creative Thanksgiving idea you can think of.  Tons of different activities include Mazes, Word Bingo, Turkey Trivia, Recipes and this nifty Thanksgiving placemat to keep the kids occupied before mealtime!

The site is www.tipjunkie.com/thanksgiving-activities.com for teachable turkey moments this Thanksgiving!   I can't wait to try some myself.   :)

 Tip 2         Puppets and Reading

Puppets are a wonderful idea for guided reading lessons. They add excitement and fun, making for more eager readers!

Students lend their voice to puppets while reading a story and they enjoy acting out characters.  This is important because students will go back and read a line with more inflection if they feel their puppet needs it.  They are paying more attention to their own reading and will self-correct.  Which is what we want! They focus on how their puppet should act, react and sound as they read through their lines.

Also, puppets provide excellent language experience to children who are not yet reading.  One of the first things you'll want to do with these children is have them teach manners to their puppets.  This will go a long way in keeping puppets kind to one another!

Photo below is of me in my Halloween costume... puppet included!  My magic wand had turned a bad guy into a frog.  Yes, there is much creativity that comes with puppets!

Cousins with finger puppets at a recent family gathering make for good language experience, too!

Tip 3       National Writers Month

This tip is for adults as well as young children.  November is the month for anyone wanting to write a novel...to get started!  There are sites for both age ranges giving pep talks, support, meeting fellow writers online and in person, badges, and up to date word count.  The "Young Writers Program" is now a part of "National Novel Writing Month" and can be viewed at www.ywp.nanowrimo.org

Adults can go to http://www.nanowrimo.org . Using pencil and paper or keyboard and computer, whatever gets your creative juices flowing - JUST DO IT!

 Personalized Book of the Month
