Greetings!
As winter approaches, I am in the midst of planning a robust training calendar for the CO VMRC that includes disaster sheltering, avian handling, and pet first aid. In collaboration with Harrison Memorial Animal Hospital, we have begun planning a joint exercise to be held in March. This exercise will be the first that will utilize our new mobile clinic. Details of all these opportunities will be sent to you as they are formalized.
I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a joyous holiday season and to thank you for your dedication to the CO VMRC and the people and animals of Colorado.

DISASTER SHELTERING FOR COMPANION ANIMALS: SAVE THE DATE!
On January 22 and 23, the American Humane Asso ciation will offer its Disaster Sheltering for Companion Animals to responders in the Metro Denver area. This first of two classes will be held in Englewood. The second class will be offered later this winter in the north Metro area.
Funding for this training is being provided by the North Central Region's Citizen Corps Council and we thank them for their support.
Details on class registration will be forthcoming. For more information on the content of the training visit the American Humane Association website. |
PET FIRST AID TO BE RESCHEDULED
Red Cr oss Pet First Aid Instructors Kris Field and Kathy Tubbs will be offering this class (based on the Red Cross curriculum) to CO VMRC members later this winter. We are rescheduling the class as the original date conflicts with the American Humane Association Disaster Sheltering Training.
As this course is being offered at no charge, participants will not receive Red Cross certification, but will develop the first aid skills needed to support canines and felines in the field. Stay tuned! |
CO VMRC ASKED TO SUPPORT CANINE TEAMS
The Colorado Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps has been asked to provide support to the CO-TF1 Canine Open Training Weekend to be held May 21-22 at the Denver International Airport's "rubble pile."
Members will be able to provide preliminary canine assessment, stabilization care for any injured canine, and further treatment recommendations.
A notice seeking volunteers will be sent to CO VMRC members in early Spring. |
FUNDING RECEIVED FROM ANIMAL ASSISTANCE FOUNDATION
The Animal Assistance Foundation (AAF) has awarded CVMF a grant to support its animal response capacity building efforts on the Western Slope. Funding will enhance the COVMRC's recruitment activities and training of veterinary and other animal professionals to participate in the Unit.
COVMRC will hold a series of workshops to introduce potential members to the work the Unit does and to encourage their participation. The AAF award complements funding received from CDPHE to support such efforts.
We are grateful to AAF and thank them for their support. |
