"May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it."

                       1 Thessalonians 5:23 & 24

 Bible

Stepping It Up in Scripture;

Research five verses that address the areas of the mind, heart, soul, and body. Here's an example: Romans 12:1, 2.

Working It Out in Scripture:

Pick one of the verses from above, and commit it to memory. No excuses of having a bad memory or not enough time! Remember: this is meant to strengthen us, not maintain the status quo.

Strengthening tip:

We remember Scripture through our spirit, not only in our mind

(John 14:26).

Ask God to fill your mind with his Holy Spirit so that his word will take root!

The goal for this exercise is to establish the word of God into each area of our being. Remember: the word of God speaks truth into existence. It did so with creation and it does so in our lives.

An Invitation to Prayer

Stepping It Up in Prayer:

Meditate on the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. How does it address the spiritual, emotional, and physical areas of our life?

Working It Out in Prayer:

Choose a different physical position to pray in: kneeling, raised hands, lie on floor, face raised upward, taking a walk, etc.

The goal for this exercise is to begin new connections between our spirit, soul, and body. Not for the comfort, but perhaps stretch us beyond our usual reality.

Father God, may we learn by your Holy Spirit to seek you with all our heart. Please increase our faith through prayer, scripture, and your power so that we may honor you in every area of life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Dear Friend,

Welcome to Stepping It Up!

Stepping It Up is a new weekly email from Strength of Heart an outreach with Through the Roof Ministries (TTRM). These weekly spiritual workouts are designed to align ourselves with the word of the Lord. This includes our spirit, soul, and body, devoting time, energy and attention to "work out our salvation" every day. This has to do with the process of sanctification - the setting apart the new from the old. It is a means to an end. The end goal is to stand before the throne of God one day, clothed in the righteousness of Christ. As we

walk toward that amazing moment, God has given us what we need to live life with strength, purpose, and hope. His truth

found in God's word can unravel the knots, the kinks, and the

confusion of life.

I've met countless individuals who yearn for a way, a secret, or something to help them get beyond what this life can offer. Life is hard. God is good. But what do we do with that information, really? I have been there many times, scratching my head but barely scratching the surface of what God wants for me during my stay on this planet.

Well, I believe now is the time for seeking, panting, longing after Father God and his Son, Jesus Christ with everything and then some. God sent Jesus from heaven to earth in passionate pursuit of us, his people. Now it's our turn to chase after him. Scripture makes it clear: those who seek, trust, and love God with everything will find him (Jeremiah 29:13; Psalm 37:4; Luke 10:27). When we intentionally and faithfully do this, the power of God will impact every area of our life. This is the heart behind the message of Stepping it up. This is not a five-minute devotional. This is an invitation - an invitation to join me on a journey towards spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health and wholeness. Bottom line? I'm committing myself to get fit for the Kingdom, and I'd like some company!

Fellow sojourners, because of the work of Jesus on the cross and the power of God who raised him from the dead, we are already more than conquerors! We can live strong because Christ has made us strong. We can defeat sin in our life because Jesus has already made the enemy a spectacle by dying for our sins. Live a forgiven life by forgiving others. Joy bubbles up when we remove the things that are holding it down. It's already there! We can make wise choices when we ask God for wisdom. Our heart is content as we absorb what the Lord has already supplied.

Stepping It Up will equip us as growing followers of Christ to 1) Decontaminate our life, 2) Increase healthy habits, and 3) Build spiritual and physical strength and stamina. Life in Christ is certainly not a sprint; it is a marathon - a long-term commitment toward holy, powerful living. We are told to "keep the pace" with the Spirit of God (Galatians 5:25). Not driven for success, but led along toward peace and purpose that glorifies God. The Spirit of power, love, and a sound mind is alive within our bodies (2 Timothy 1:17). Let us "work it out" so that what has been poured into us will more and more overflow onto those around us!

Each workout session is created to span a week. Speed and efficiency will not win you a prize. My prayer for each participant of Stepping It Up is for God to engage you deeply over time. The Holy Spirit leads his people. He never rushes or pushes. Please resist the urge to "get it done", "get it out of the way", or the other extreme, put it off till the last minute. Pace yourself throughout the week. It'll be worth it!

Stepping It Up in the Physical:

As God begins to move in our lives through scripture and prayer

(see Stepping It Up in scripture and prayer in the left column), our bodies should reflect his work! What area needs reshaped? Eating, exercising, sickness, how we talk, rest, etc... take time to commit to pray about it in specific ways.

Working It Out in the Physical:

God's power shows up in our weakness. We choose however. We live in weakness or we embrace his power. Exercise God's strength in you to impact the area of weakness! Consider these four steps towards a stronger life and body:

  1. Repentance - acknowledging going against God's best for you and turning away from disobedience.
  2. Renew - Dismiss (one) wrong way of thinking about your body and counter it with Biblical thoughts.
  3. Releasing - Recognize (one) old heavy habit and start replacing it with healthy choices that foster closer relationships with God, others, and yourself.
  4. Relax - Sit up straight and breathe deeply three times slowly. Doesn't that feel good? This increases oxygen to your body, organs, and brain and expels tension from muscles, chest, and neck.

The goal of this ongoing exercise is to begin detoxifying our body, soul, and spirit from the world's toxic input so that our connection to the "power source" (God) is free and clear!

Strength of Heart Stepping It Up is a weekly email message written by Shanda Grubb-Gobeli featuring scripture, prayers, and strengthening tips for daily Biblical living.
The goal for this outreach is to encourage, equip, and challenge people with and without disabilities to step lively in faith toward holiness and wholeness everyday.
