Here's hoping that each of you had a wonderful and safe July 4th holiday weekend! Summer certainly is in full swing! Don't let the extra social gatherings or having older kids out of school for summer derail your fitness goals!
Remember that fitness is more then the number on the scale. Getting fit is about moving more, feeling self confident, having more energy, a positive attitude, and making small and sustainable changes to live a better life. Get your kids involved and make it a family affair!
Summer is the perfect time to do just that! Local farmer's markets are in full swing! Grab the family and let your kids become part of the experience. Bike to your nearby market.

Some of you may have already noticed a new face among us!
If you have been to the Mitchell Park class lately, then you have had the pleasure of meeting our new instructor, Jessica Owens (A.K.A. Jess).

Jess is the proud mother to her 18 month old daughter, Maggie. Maggie has masses of adorable curls and can be found cheering on her mother!
Jess relocated to Santa Clara, CA with her husband three years ago. She is originally from a small town in Alberta, Canada where she worked as a physical therapist for post surgical and senior clients. Good news! After Jess gives you a butt whoopin' she can then show you tips for working out the kinks!
Jess came to Baby Boot Camp as a student in the Fall 2009 after fighting to lose her baby weight. Not only did she work up a sweat, but she made some wonderful friends! Her love of Baby Boot Camp has resulted in her becoming a nationally certified ACE personal trainer along with a specialty certification in prenatal and postpartum fitness. Over the same weekend that she obtained her credential, she also completed her first half marathon! Way to go Jess!

Every summer as temperatures rise, the horrific stories begin surfacing of children being forgotten in the car. We all ask the same thing, "How is that possible?" Unfortunately, when sleep deprivation is becoming an art form and life comes at you fast, it can happen. Dave Bell is a local man who created a product to try and help avoid this very tragic scenario. His product, Vizkid, is a neoprene cone that goes into your car seat when you child is not with you. You place the cone in the front seat when your child is placed in the car seat. That is your front seat reminder. You do this ritual of placing the cone in the car seat to your front seat and back.
