How do I lose the baby weight?
Some of you are asking this very question. There isn't a magic potion or secret formula. The key is knowing what it takes to lose 1 pound. It takes burning 3500 calories to lose 1 pound. That's a fact. If you do not make any changes to your current dietary intake while simply moving more each day, you will be on your way.
You can take it a step further and make healthy food choices each day to ensure that your body gets the nutrition it needs, but also cuts some unnecessary calories. It's important to get adequate caloric intake for prenatal moms and postpartum moms who are nursing. Your body is working overtime between growing a healthy baby and then supplying your child with milk. Your body can require an extra 300-500 for this each day! It is also important to drink water everyday. Hydration is key!
Just remember, your body took months to gain the weight. So, be good to your body and give it time to shed the weight in a healthy manner. It has been proven that by taking weight off consistently and slowly over a period of time, you are more likely to keep it off. Fad diets and extreme behavior do not result in healthy weight loss. Losing 1-2 pounds maximum each week is a healthy goal.
Through consistent exercise ( yes, consistency is key) and healthy eating habits, you will lose the weight over time. You will reap the rewards of your diligence and healthy habits when you slip back into your pre-pregnancy clothes.
Here is an example: I want to lose 10 pounds. In order to do so, I will need to burn 35,000 calories. This is achievable by making healthy food choices and adding exercise to your routine. It's not unheard of to burn 400-700 calories over the 75 min. class. It all depends on how hard you are working out. It's key to really focus on quality cardio drills in order to increase your heart rate while also working your muscles until their fatigue point during strength drills. If you exercise and burn 500 calories per day over a 7 day period, you will lose that pound. You will also see inches fall off. If you cut 100 calories from your current daily intake, you are cutting 700 calories per week. This combined with exercise will see you flying toward your goal!
Initially, you may not see a drop in the scale but may notice your clothes fitting differently. This is due to the fact that you are building lean body mass through your strength training. The great news is that by increasing your lean body mass your body will become more efficient at burning the body fat. Your body actually burns more calories maintain the lean body mass. You will lose inches and the pounds will drop over time.
So stay focused throughout the holidays. It takes 3,500 calories to lost a pound. It also works in reverse. By choosing foods higher in calories and lower in nutrition, you can also gain a pound by higher calorie consumption.
Feel free to ask me for more details. |
