RISING SENIORS:
IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

Okay, your grades for college are done, but there's a big part of your college admissions profile that you can still be improving ... ACTIVITIES!

Summer is a great time to get involved in activities around the community, so if your resume is lacking a "wow" factor, get moving!

Remember, colleges want to know about your activities because they want to see what's important to you, and they're looking for hints about how involved you will be on their campus. Is your activities list so far a good reflection of you and your passions? Do you have a leadership position in something that is especially meaningful to you? If not, don't give up. Get busy!

Summer Activites Still Count For Rising Seniors

Wanted PosterHere are a few ideas for turning your interests into meaningful activities:

-If you love art, call the Cornelius Arts Project to see how you might be able to volunteer.

-If you love animals, contact the Cornelius Animal Shelter to see what they need.

-If you play an instrument, contact a local nursing home and ask if you could come play for residents.

-If you play a sport, look for a way to coach or teach children your sport. Call agencies like Ada Jenkins or the YMCA.

-If you like being outside, contact the Carolina Raptor Center to see if they need help maintaining their trails this summer. You can also call the Parks and Rec Departments in Cornelius, Davidson, and Huntersville to see if they need any volunteer help with anything this summer.

-If you like being inside, call your local library and ask if you can volunteer to clean, shelve books, etc.

-If you like hanging out with your friends, get a group of them together and organize a food drive in your neighborhood for the local Loaves and Fishes food pantry.

Getting involved will not only brighten someone's day and teach you more about the world and yourself, it will also show colleges that you are so much more than grades and test scores. If you're still having trouble coming up with ideas, let's sit down together and brainstorm. Call or email me to get started!
