PETE'S PICKS
2012 marathon logo
If you're like me, you love finding surprises ... and that's exactly what I found when we pulled of the side of the road and bushwacked our way to the base of the 80' Falling Springs waterfall.

Located in the Alleghany Highlands, on Route 220, the falls were once visited by Thomas Jefferson ... and he ranked them high on his list of impressive and sublime works of nature in Virginia. Leave your car, hike to the bottom of the falls, and you'll be rewarded with a very special swimming hole.
Directions: Take exit 16 off of I-64 onto 220N. Follow for 9.7 miles to parking area/overlook on your left.
And if you're not busy Saturday afternoon, stop by our tent at the Microfestivus event in Elmwood Park. We won't be handing out free beer ... but we will have something that goes well with it.

REGISTER FOR YOUR MOST CHALLENGING 5K EVER
Been thinking about running in the Radical Runabout Sprint Obstacle Race? The register today!

There are only 50 spots remaining for the Aug. 25 race at Fallon Park.

The Radical Runabout Sprint Obstacle Race combines distance of a 5k and a whole host of challenges - from steep inclines, a multi-terrain environment, and obstacles designed to actually slow you down. (Seasoned runners will probably finish this event with their worst 5k times ever - and that's ok!)

The unique race will be constructed to test both your mind and body with nine obstacles and four challenges. You can find descriptions of all the obstacles and challenges -- including the Critter Crawl, Log Leaper, and A-maze-ing -- on the Radical Runabout website. Check out the course map, but none of the obstacles will be set up in advance so good luck planning for those.
