ADVANCE AUTO PARTS ADDS 75 NEW JOBS Earlier this month, Advance Auto Parts announced plans to add a new Financial Services Commercial Customer Care Center to its Roanoke headquarters, adding 75 new jobs and investing $8 million. The new Financial Services division will manage the entire commercial customer credit experience including commercial customer master data setup, billing, accounts receivable, and collections.
"Over the last few years, we have invested over $10 million in our Store Support Center in Roanoke in our effort to expand and improve our facilities," said Darren Jackson, president and chief executive officer. "This new team will be part of our over 1,600 team member base in Roanoke and is an integral part of our goal to grow Advance through service and reflects our longstanding commitment to the growth and development of the Roanoke Valley." The Roanoke Regional Partnership, the City of Roanoke, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and Virginia Department of Business Assistance worked together to help secure the project.

RAISING THE PROFILE OF THE ROANOKE REGION The media was sharing the news of great things happening in the Roanoke Region once again in 2011. The area, its businesses, and its attractions have been ranked and featured in media outlets as varied as the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Forbes, Kiplinger, Outside Online, GearJunkie.com, Business Insider, and Sports Business Daily. The Roanoke Regional Partnership's social media portfolio continues to grow now with five Facebook pages and five Twitter accounts - Roanoke Region of Virginia, Roanoke Outside, Get2KnowNoke, the Blue Ridge Marathon, and the Roanoke Entrepreneur Hub. Twitter followers and Facebook fans are growing and engaging citizens. Efforts to drive web traffic also were successful with more than 206,000 unique visitors to Roanoke.org, RoanokeOutside.org, BlueRidgeMarathon.com, and RoanokeEntrepreneur.com in 2011. Exposure of this magnitude raises the visibility and profile of our region and helps attract people, jobs, ideas, and investment.

INVESTMENT AND JOBS GREW IN 2011Location and expansions assisted by the Roanoke Regional Partnership accounted for $52 million in investments and 863 new jobs in 2011. Activity reflected a recovering economy and was an increase of 362 percent compared to 2010. Jobs also rebounded with a 217 percent increase over 2010. Foreign direct investment represented $23 million. |
