BIKE ART TOU R - A COMB?
Roanoke recently unveiled its newest piece of public art, which doubles as a pretty cool bike rack too.
Twenty-nine artists responded to the city's request for a one-of-a-kind bike rack, with artists Joshua Howell and Kagan Taylor creating the eventual winner - "In A Tangle".

| PADDLE-POWERED FISHING TOURNAMENT
An eco-friendly bass fishing tournament that features human-powered boats and catch-and-release practices is stopping in the Roanoke Region, giving anglers a chance to explore the area's lakes and rivers.
The national 2011 River Bassin' Tournament Trail, with stops in 15 locations across the United States, will hold its finale on Sept. 10, including a celebratory wrap-up event at Roanoke County's Green Ridge Recreation Center.
This up-and-coming national tournament is drawing anglers for its unique approach. At each stop competitors fish rivers and lakes of their choice then take photos of their catch on a ruler device before releasing fish back into water. They then bring their camera's memory card to determine the winner based on a three-fish combined length. Only paddle-powered boats are allowed (kayaks, canoes, SUP, etc.). Any angler can participate in the Roanoke stop (you do not have to participate in other tournament stops).

STAR CITY MOUNTAIN BIKE SOCIETY BASH - 7/8
There's a reason Outside TV filmed a series of mountain bike videos in the Roanoke Region - it's because we have some of the best mountain biking in the entire United States.
And to that note, the Star City Mountain Bike Society was formed to connect people with the sport of mountain biking. This is a new initiative, spurred primarily by local Skip "expert-rider" Huffman. All we can say is that Skip lives and breathes mountain biking....when not floating down a river (upside down) that is.
Skip is responsible for the Wednesday Night Disco and Freakout at Fallon race series, and is instrumental in Roanoke's first-ever pump track being built at Norwich Park.
If you're into mountain biking and want to meet others who share your passion for the sport then you don't want to miss the Star City Mountain Bike Society 2011 Summer Bash.
Hear the latest updates on the new pump track, learn about the new trail at Carvins Cove, find out what a trail monitor does, then kick back and enjoy a free viewing of "The Freedom Riders" (note for parents - strong language).
- Date: Friday, July 8th
- Time: 6:30pm+ (movie starts at 7pm)
- Where: Blue 5 Restaurant (downstairs Red Room)
- Cost: Free to get in (drinks are a different story)
