Like a Speeding Locomotive
Roanoke, VA native Aaron Dykstra uses an icon of his hometown for his bicycle company's namesake and manufacturing paradigm - Six Eleven Bicycle Co. Norfolk and Western Railroad's "J Class " locomotive No. 611 was a sleek and streamlined steam locomotive built in the N&W's Roanoke Shops in May 1950 to haul passenger trains at speed over the Blue Ridge Mountains and onto the flatter terrain of Virginia's Tidewater region. After the N&W retired its steam locomotives, No. 611 was resurrected by successor company Norfolk Southern in the 1980s to haul special excursion trains as a symbol of the power, speed and elegance of a bygone industrial era. Dykstra humbly incorporates those same design virtues - aesthetics and aerodynamics - in his custom bicycles that channel No. 611's grace at speed. 2010 NAHBS Rookie of the Year in Richmond, VA, not far from his home, Dykstra hit another home run at this year's show in Austin.

Name A Festival, Win Some Chacos!
Picture this - a weekend of outdoor events, demos, races, hikes, live music, camping, vendors, beer, food, cheap gear, and more. Sounds pretty nice, right?
A group of local outdoor enthusiasts, businesses, and advocates have spent the last two months brainstorming ways to make this a reality, but they need your help.
This event needs a name! Add your suggestion in the comments section below, and if your event name is selected you win a free pair of Chaco sandals/shoes. If you see something you like voice your approval by posting a comment to the effect.
A little more of the event - the idea is simple, take what we already have going on (existing events, races, etc), add in some new ones, package it all into one event, and then market/promote it via one website created specificially for this event. These events can take place anywhere within our region. During the day people can pick and choose which events to participate in, and then toward the end of the day they can return to the "festival focal point" where there will be music, vendors, camping, and more.
To get your creative juices flowing we thought we'd provide a few names already submitted (feel free to modify anything you see). Click here to see what's already been suggested, then add your ideas in the comment section.
