What is Slacklining?
Want to improve your core strength, agility, and focus? Slacklining is the perfect way to do all the above and have a bit of fun at the same time. .JPG)
Slacklining, has become more than just a trend. The "sport with the strap" has become a real lifestyle for people all around the world. This balancing sport is similar to tightrope walking but is low to the ground and uses webbing that stretches and bounces like a long and narrow trampoline.
According to Gibbon, the leader in slacklining, slacklines can be found virtually everywhere: in schools, kindergardens, rehab clinics, sports clubs and trainings center, as well as at the beach, in parks, in urban environments and even in backyards. Roanoke Parks and Recreation is offering two introduction to slacklining classes this month (2/20 and 2/27). Attend one of these classes and learn how to safely set up a slackline, gain helpful tips to get started, and enjoy plenty of practice time honing your new skills.

"3 Feet" Bill Needs Support
A bill that increases the minimum passing distance from 2' to 3' for motor vehicles passing bicycles has cleared the Senate and is now before the Transportation Sub Committee #2. The same bill also adds bicycles to a list of vehicles "that a motorist shall not follow more closely than is reasonable," which aims to prevent aggressive tailgating.
Before the bill can be voted on by the House it must first be passed by the Transportation Committee. This committee could review the bill as early as February 15.
Please write, or email, your delegate now asking them to support SB 928/HB 1683.
- Click here for a sample letter you can use when contacting your delegate
- Send an email to Transportation Committee Chair Delegate Charles W. Carrico, Sr.
- Click here to find out who your delegate is and send him/her an email
All in all, it will take you less than three minutes to show your support.
