FIELD to FORK Event
Do you own/manage a restaurant, store, or farm? Or know someone that does?
"Each food item in a typical U.S. meal has traveled an average of 1500 miles. If every U.S. citizen ate just one meal a week (any meal) composed of locally raised meats and produce, we would reduce oil consumption in the U.S. by over 1.1 million barrels of oil each week" - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
The inaugural Field to Fork is an event that you don't want to miss. Field to Fork, presented by VT EarthWorks, is a single-day event designed to cultivate food networks by connecting established and potential local food producers with retail, commercial, and institutional buyers.
This event offers both formal and informal networking, a panel and interactive discussion session, refreshments, and dinner with wine made with ingredients grown locally.
- When: November 1 (3-8pm)
- Where: The Claude Moore Education Complex (Roanoke, VA)
- Cost: $20 (includes refreshments, dinner, and wine)

WEAR ORANGE - IT'S HUNTING SEASON
It's hunting season here in Virginia and that means it's time to break out the o range vests (or brightly color clothing) when you head out for your next hike, trail run, bike ride, or camping adventure. And don't forget to put a vest on your dog too.
TIPS:
- A licensed hunter has every bit as much right to be in the woods as you.
- Sunday is the best day to be outside (if you aren't a hunter). It is illegal to hunt on Sundays.
- Be visible. Wear bright colors and avoid earth tones. Don't wear white. A flash of white may be mistaken for the white of a deer's tail.
- Make yourself heard. Don't be obnoxious, but don't be silent. Just be heard. Talk with your partner, whistle, or wear a bell.
- Stick to the trail. Hunters are generally aware of where trails are located.
SEASONS:
- This list is incomplete and only covers the more popular hunting seasons. Visit the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for an official listing of hunting seasons, regulations, and standards.
- Err on the safe side and assume it is hunting season anytime between 10/1 and 1/1.
- Deer firearems season is the most popular: 11/13 - 12/11 (depending on the county).
- Deer archery: 10/2-11/12 and 11/29-1/1 (depending on the county).
- Deer muzzleloader: 10/30-11/12 and 12/11-1/1 (depending on the county).
- Turkey firearms: 10/23-11/5, 11/25, and 12/6-1/1.
