Multi-Million Dollar Expansion adds jobs
Trinity Packaging has announced a multi-million dollar investment expanding its Rocky
Mount facility to create 25 new jobs over the next 36 months and retain 75
existing full-time positions. The
company's investment will include the purchase of the former Erath Veneer
building, new equipment, and expanded infrastructure. Trinity, headquartered in Armonk, NY,
considered other locations in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Wisconsin
before deciding on the Rocky Mount expansion.
"Our people are our greatest asset and the work ethic of the people in the
Rocky Mount area is outstanding" said Dan Mills, Trinity VP of operations. We were very pleased with the responsiveness
of officials from Franklin County, the Town of Rocky Mount, the Roanoke
Regional Partnership and the Commonwealth of Virginia as they worked to help us make
the expansion happen."

natural beauty makes news with outdoor enthusiasts
The Roanoke, Virginia region and its natural beauty aren't news to those of us who call the region
home. For many of us, the hiking trails
of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail, and the water sports enjoyed
on the James River and Smith Mountain Lake were reasons to move here. But the region was news at the Outdoor Retailer
Summer Market in Salt Lake City, UT earlier this month. Pete Eshelman, director of outdoor branding, worked
the huge trade show to connect with retailers and manufacturers. He clearly caught
their attention; the Roanoke, Virginia region was featured in the Market's OR Daily distributed to approximately 1200 exhibitors and attendees.

Bolling Visits with RRP leadership
The
Partnership invited Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, Virginia's chief jobs
creation officer, to Roanoke to discuss Virginia's renewed focus on economic
development with the organization's leadership.
Bolling
acknowledged that Virginia has been losing ground to competing states in resources
dedicated to economic development and job creation. The last session of the Virginia General
Assembly passed legislation that is starting to close the gap. Legislation included an expansion of the
Governor's Opportunity Fund and $57.5 million in job creation programs.
The final
report of the Governor's Commission on Economic Development and Job Creation is
due next month and will include proposed legislative initiatives for the 2011 session to stimulate
job growth. Bolling hinted at a proposed
emerging technologies fund and a tourism development fund.

va TOWN WELCOMES BIKE COMPANIES WITH OPEN ARMS
Via Bicycle Retailer magazine
ROANOKE, VA- Most trade show exhibitors want to sell showgoers on a product. Pete Eshelman and Stratton Delany went to Outdoor Retailer Summer market to sell them on a city.
Eshelman is director of outdoor branding for the Roanoke Regional Partnership, the economic development arm of the western Virginia city and environs. Delany owns the Keirin Culture bike shop in Roanoke along with Kazane racing. They went to Summer market in Salt Lake City to explain why Roanoke is a good place for any outdoor or bicycle company that is looking to relocate its headquarters, build a distribution center, or otherwise expand its reach.
"We're trying to make people aware of Roanoke, put it on their maps, and let them know that this is a good place to consider if you're looking to expand or looking to relocate," Eshelman said.
Along with several outfitters, Roanoke is home to the Six-Eleven Bicycle Co., whose founder, Aaron Dykstra, won the 2010 "Rookie of the Year Award" at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show for his track bike.
