WEEKEND UPDATE

PETE's PICKS
What's my recommendation?

PeteEshelmanphoto

It is hard to believe that this weekend takes us into August. Where oh where has the summer gone!

Here's what you should do this weekend - in this order*:

  1. Choose your favorite large lake - Smith Mountain Lake or Claytor Lake
  2. Reserve a pontoon boat (or ski boat)
  3. Invite your friends to join you

* If you deviate from this order your weekend will not pan out as you hoped. It is
crucial that you reserve a boat before inviting your friends :).

Get OUTSIDE!

Mmmmm....Free Beer

Microfestivus Roanoke VAThe Square Society presents the 13th annual MicroFestivus, a micro and craft beer festival. Taste from a selection of over 50 beers from 20 micro and craft breweries from the Mid-Atlantic region.  Beer tastings are in 4 oz. and 8 oz. sizes. You must be at least 21 with a valid ID to attend.

It's $5 to get in but that doesn't get you any beer. There are a variety of "tasting packages" available. Click Here to purchase your tickets online. You can also purchase at the event but you'll be stuck in line while the rest of the smart people are already "tasting".

Click Here to see a list of beers you can sample and Here for a list of band and food vendors!

We here at Roanoke Outside love beer. We'll have a tent set up so be sure to stop by and say hello.

We are also excited to offer you a chance to WIN TWO VIP PASSES. VIP admission includes 20 servings, VIP tent access to catered food and drink and more!

All you have to do is tell us why you deserve to win!  Click here to convince us you should win!

Artie Levin Memorial ride
Come out and enjoy one of the most scenic Artie Levin Memorial Ride picturebike rides in the area!

Join local cyclists on August 8 as they celebrate the life of Artie Levin (also known as Mr. Fitness). This ride is open to everyone of every skill level.

There are multiple routes (three different distances) to choose from, all of which will follow the famous and beautiful 76 Trans-America Trail.

The routes will travel toward Lexington which will be the turnaround point for the Century. The Artie 76 is an out and back ride. All 3 distances will follow the same route; turning around sooner at designated areas will shorten the distances of the rides.

For more information and registration visit the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club

Vibram FiveFingers

via GearJunkie.com

Vibram's FiveFingers line of foot-glove shoes has taken off this year like gangbusters. Here below is a preview of the 2011 line, where the company will expand on its road running collection with the Bikila LS model. It has an off-center speed lacing system and a new type of sole.

For fitness, the company will unveil the men's and women's KomodoSport. And for - dare we say? - fashion and everyday use, the women's Jaya and Jaya LR are new entries.

Also, of note: In 2011, Vibram will be launching its first-ever FiveFingers children's collection. No pics on the kiddie foot-gloves yet.
