PETE's PICKS What's my recommendation? Any guesses as to what my recommendation is for this weekend?
On Saturday you need to spend time with the family, rest, run errands, and go see a movie, etc. because on Sunday you are coming to the Gear Junkie Treasure Hunt. An event like this has never been done before (anywhere) and we need your support. We're giving away $40,000 worth of outdoor gear and anyone can enter. If you can read a simple trail map you can participate - it's that simple. It is an open race course - at Explore Park - where participants are given a map and sent on a "treasure hunt" looking for flags within a two-hour limit. Find a flag, score a point. The flags will be hidden in the woods, along trails and on top of ridges in Explore Park. At the end of the race, you "cash in" the points for gear, which includes: backpacks, tents, jackets, GPS units, knives, water bottles, shoes, watches, stoves, sunglasses, hammocks, sleeping bags, bike racks and more. Even if you don't feel like participating, stop by and check out the action. Just hop on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a scenic drive, head to milepost 115, and turn toward Explore Park. Leashed dogs are welcome. - Click here for more details
- Register online (use discount code "Roanoke"). Beginners/intermediate register for "Sport" category.

Holy Cow...That is Sweet!
With only a few days left until the much
anticipated Gear Junkie Treasure Hunt we've been busy
preparing for this once-in-a-lifetime event! We thought we had
everything figured out and then we got a call from Sylvan Sport with some great news.
National Geographic Adventure Magazine
calls the Sylvan Sport GO the "coolest camper ever"...and now we have
one to give away as our Grand Prize!

Designed to be a mobile adventure trailer,
this backpack-on-wheels is more versatile than a Swiss Army Knife. At
only 800 pounds it can be towed by almost any vehicle. Click
here to read a complete Gear Junkie review of the GO.

This is our grand prize - everyone who
clears the entire course is entered into a drawing. At the end of the
day we'll draw the name of one lucky winner! This, along with the
hundreds of other prizes, is something you don't want to miss out on.
-
Online registration ends Friday evening
(use code "Roanoke" to save $5).
-
Day-of registration is available beginning
at 9am.
