PETE's PICKS
What's my recommendation?
Still searching for that special gift for Father's Day? Give your dad what he really wants!
Honor your father by showing him the beautiful sights of the Appalachian Trail. Take him on a weekend hike to McAfee Knob and Tinker Cliffs. This rare 13 mile overnight hike has numerous long range views from beautiful rock outcroppings.
- Day 1 - This quick point-to-point trip passes the well known McAfee Knob; the most photographed point on the Appalachian Trail.
- Day 2 - brings you and your father to Tinker Cliffs. This is the downhill part of the trip, but is still a breathtaking view which traverses the edge of the cliff for a half mile.
As the trip nears its end, you and your father will be able to look back on the trip and feel a sense of accomplishment. The Appalachian Trail will represent a sacred bond that you and your father will be able to hold for years to come. Click here for specific details on this hike. Can't hike it this weekend, be sure to bookmark the page!

Want More Local Content on TV?
Roanoke Outside is a proponent of,
well...getting outside. However, we recognize that every now and then it
feels good to curl up on the couch and watch a little TV (in
moderation). Local Television is a connective tissue
that binds a community together. It's not Hollywood or the bright
lights of New York City, but the events that happen right in your back
yard. Watching local television is a validation of where you come from
and gives you a connection that watching a big industry film usually
wouldn't. We're not talking local news, we're talking about content
that shows local people, places, events, arts, music, the outdoors, and
more. Horse Archer Productions is in the process
of partnering with a local major network affiliate to produce
documentary style programming that catches the essence of Roanoke. They
are taping new shows this summer to bring exclusively to the Roanoke
Valley. Several half-hour television pilots will be filmed on subjects
of local interest in an effort to bring back local television. You've heard the phrase "buy local, be
local", now you can add "watch local, be local" to the mix. Show your
support by joining their Facebook group,
