WEEKEND UPDATE

PETE's PICKS
What's my recommendation?Pete Eshelman

Saturday- The Roanoke River Greenway is quite possibly one of Roanoke's greatest assets. Though not the longest trail, the Roanoke River Greenway is a perfect getaway for the outdoor enthusiast or family. This Saturday, the First Annual Roanoke River Greenway Festival will be held along the along the greenway in Wasena Park, Smith Park, and River's Edge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The mission of this festival is to show people that you don't have to go far to get outdoors.  Just as summer is kicking off, the Roanoke River Greenway could be your new favorite place to spend time in the sun, and experience something new that's right under your nose.  Roanoke Outside will have a table/tent set up - stopy by and say hi!

Saturday- The mountain biking community is a strong and growing part of the outside culture in Roanoke, Virginia and the surrounding areas. Join the Star City Mountain Bike Society at their Inaugural Bash on Saturday at Blue 5 restaurant. This informal/social event inspires mountain bikers alike to come together as one and collaborate not only on the mountain biking culture, but what they can do as a group to see mountain biking grow and prosper. Taking action in something that interests you is going to be the difference between what succeeds or fails in the community.  The Red Room at Blue 5 will open its doors up at 7 o'clock on Saturday. The first step is getting together and having fun, off the bikes!

Get OUTSIDE!

Treasure Hunt Gear: ENO Hammocks
From tents and backpacks, to headlamps, knives, footwear, jackets, and apparel, our "Treasure Hunt: Roanoke" event on July 11th promises to be one of the biggest gear extravaganzas ever envisioned! From the prize pool, here's today's gear pick of the day. . .Aid Station Mile Breakdown Chart

Why you want to win this gear! Because this huge two-person camp hammock - dimensions: 6' 8" x 9' 10" - weighs just 22 ounces but packs small for transport in the woods. It is made of breathable nylon and tethered up with nautical-grade line. Says the company: "ENO's DoubleNest hammock makes you want to snuggle. With two-feet of extra width, the DoubleNest seats more than one person comfortably and is essential for family adventures. It packs down to the size of a grapefruit, so there is no excuse to be without your ENO hammock." www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc.com
