WEEKEND UPDATE
PETE's PICKS
What's my recommendation?Pete Eshelman

Friday - An impromptu, but very organized, live music/street performer event is occurring in downtown Roanoke from 4:30 - 7:00pm. Musicians, drummers and performers will occupy 15 busking (performance) stations. The mission is to demonstrate how amazing it would be to fill our streets with talented musicians and performers on a regular basis. Currently there is no policy or method for people to perform in public. This performance is intended to show how incredible this element would be to our city and to help establish areas and an easy process by which artists could sign up weekly to perform in the future. Please pass this around to anyone you think would be interested! It's FREE, FUN and a GREAT way to see the city tonight. Facebook users click here for details.  Everyone else click here.

Saturday - American Hiking Society's signature trail awareness program, National Trails Day is Saturday. The event inspires the public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to seek out their favorite trails to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails.
How can you get involved?

Get OUTSIDE!

Zippo Emergency Fire Starter - Gear Review
Invented during the Great Depression, and seen as a small icon of American design for more than 75 years since, Zippo brand lighters package fuel, spark and flame in a portable, durable metal case. Flip it open, strike the wheel to spark a flame, and flick it shut when you'reAid Station Mile Breakdown Chart done - fire snuffed, job complete.
Cigars might come to mind with a Zippo before a campfire does. But this year, the famous Zippo form factor - a flip-open rectangle case, hinged and flickable with a latch to hold it closed - comes to the outdoors market. The company's Emergency Fire Starter product, $19.95, includes a flint-wheel sparker and an area to stow four fire-starting sticks inside.

Designed for the "most rugged of outdoor situations," the fire-starting kit is something of a survival item. You throw it in a backpack and hope to never use it. But if your matches are wet - and you can't find that disposable lighter hopefully stowed in your bag - the Zippo Emergency Fire Starter (www.zippo.com) is a viable option to produce a flame.
The Zippo "kit" comes with four... Click here for the the rest of the story>>>
