What's my recommendation?Pete Eshelman

Looks like we have another great weekend of weather ahead of us!

  • On Saturday - head out to your favorite hiking trail and check out the trail conditions. All this snow will have taken a toll on the trails and we need to know the conditions. When you get back send me an email with an update. Looking for hike? Choose one from our hiking list.
  • On Sunday - now that you've seen the condition of the trails, join a group of volunteers as they do some trail repair work at Mill Mountain Park. Remember, it is volunteers like you that have helped create such a fabulous trail network throughout the region.

Congrats - Sharebike.org Earns Silver
Roanoke's Sharebike.org was recognized by the League of American Bicyclists with a Silver Level award as a Bicycle Friendly Business.

The Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) program recognizes employers' efforts to encourage a more bicycle friendly atmosphere for employees and customers. The program honors innovative bike-friendly efforts and provides technical assistance and information to help companies and organizations become even better for bicyclists. This new initiative complements the League's Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) program, which has been recognizing cities and towns for their bicycle friendliness since 2003. Roanoke has submitted its application to the BFC and is awaiting the results.

The marathon committee is seeking individuals and/or groups to help make this event spectacular.  Whether you are an individual, a church, business, civic group, scout group, club, or just a group of friends, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Drop the committee an email if are interested. This doesn't commit you to anything (not yet at least). Be sure to include your availability on Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday.

Banff Mountain Film Festival March 17         Banff Image
It's time for your spring motivation - the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will be in Blacksburg on March 17. Many of you attended the Banff Radical Reels film festival last September and you will NOT see the same films at this festival. The World Tour films include a range of different themes (adventure sports, environment, mountain culture, heritage, etc.) and styles (action-filled shorts; longer, more comprehensive films; amateur and professional productions; etc.).

The 2010 edition of the film festival brings together a wide range of mountain escapades from all over the world. Come see how cinematographers push the limits to present films showcasing breath-taking locations, amazing cultures, and daring athletes.

One showing only, so don't miss out!
Tickets are available for sale at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports, located at the First and Main shopping plaza in Blackburg, or by calling the Lyric (540.951.4771).
