This is one of Roanoke's most unique events. Into The Darkness is a 4 mile race that takes place at night with the only light source being your headlamp/flashlight. The course will take you through four miles of Explore Park trails. The course consists of 3 miles of twisty rolling single track and 1 mile of grass and asphalt roads. Trails are marked with reflective arrows, glow sticks, and an occasional surprise. 

When: October 24 at 7pm
Cost: $20 before 10/10 and $30 after

This Saturday, come test-drive the latest in camping gear at the 7th annual Outdoor Trails Demo Day Tent & Sidewalk Sale. Over 30 different tents and tarps will be set up for your inspection. Fire up a stove and give it a try. Try out the latest portable water filters. Company representatives from The North Face, Mountain Hardwear, MSR, Kelty and more will be on hand to answer your questions and show you their latest gear.

Meet Stephen "Futureman" Otis, author of "A Road More or Less Traveled" and winner of four national book awards. Critics are calling "A Road More or Less Traveled" the funniest, most raw narrative on the Appalachian Trail to date.

There is a sidewalk sale Wednesday through Saturday but the Demo Day is Saturday only.

On October 10th the first-ever single-day hike of the Appalachian Trail will be attempted and the organizers need Roanoke's help. The trail will be divided into segments, which will be hiked by various volunteers. Each hiker will have a printable logo to take a picture with on the hike. The pictures will be collected along with trip reports to make a document memorializing the hike. If you are interested in being a part of hiking history read the entire article>>>

On November 1st (11am-4pm), Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landingwill host an outdoor gear "yard sale/gear swap" - and everyone is invited. Bring your gear and slap a price sticker on it (you are required to stay by your gear). Slightly used mountain bikes, whitewater kayaks, sea kayaks, canoes, backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, stoves, skis, snowboards, fishing rods, fleeces, jackets, bike racks, camp chairs, and more will be available. Please send Patrick an email if you are interested in selling some of your gear.
